Caffeine is a diuretic which means that it results in an increase in frequency of urination. It can also increase the urge to urinate if consumed in excessive amounts. Caffeine is thought to have a direct effect on the bladder's smooth muscle.

There are many different causes of kidney disease and while they may damage the kidneys in different ways the consequences are very similar- a reduction in their ability to filter wastes from your blood resulting in a build-up of wastes in the body.
The problem with CKD, and the reason why it is often called a ‘𝐒𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐑’ is that symptoms often do not develop until the advanced stages of the disease and they can be quite non-specific which means that for 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱.

Because symptoms may not be observed until the later stages of kidney disease, regular monitoring of kidney function through blood and urine tests are so important, particularly for those with diabetes and high blood pressure- the two most common causes of CKD.
I’ve said this before but it’s so important that I’ll say it again here- make sure you ask for copies of your blood tests and look at the results yourself, I can’t tell you how many times people are not made aware of the decline in their kidney function until the later stages of CKD.

Numbness is caused by damage, irritation or compression of nerves. A single nerve branch or several nerves may be affected, as with a slipped disk in the back or carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist.
