Check out The Holmes Prize For Realistic Australian Bird Art catalogue for 2023! So honoured my painting "Basking in the Banksia" was selected for the front cover. I love how the graphic designer chose to use the eye for the 'o'.
The other spectacular artworks on the catalogue include Edwin Butlers "Koel Kid" and Natalie Jane Parker's "Patiently Waiting".
The Holmes Art Prize 2023 Exhibition is hosted by Sunshine Coast Art and Framing Gallery from October 27th to November 24th.

I had an absolutely incredible time at the Holmes Prize for Realistic Australian Bird Art opening yesterday. The atmosphere was electric as artists and art enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the beauty and intricacy of avian artistry.
Internationally acclaimed wildlife artist, Steve Morvell, had the unenviable task of selecting the winner and awards of excellence. Congratulations to Elizabeth Cogley who was awarded Best in Show with her emotive piece āStop the Antics and Pay Attentionā. Congratulations also to Frances McMahon, Peta Boyce, Catherine Lidden and Linda Lunnon who all received well deserved awards of excellence.
A special thank you to Dr Gary Holmes, Dr Margaret Anderson, Sharon Rothsay, Marie Pigott and the Sunshine Coast Art and Framing Gallery for organising such a successful event.
The highlights of my night were having my artwork feature on the cover of the official Holmes Prize booklet and marketing posters. I was also fortunate enough to sell my entry, āBasking in the Banksiaā and meet the new owners within moments of the opening of the event!
Congratulations also to all the exhibiting artists for presenting such a stunning exhibition! If you are able to visit, it is well worth coming to check it out. It is hosted by Sunshine Coast Art and Framing Gallery until 24th November at 3 Longwood Street, Minyama, Queensland.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to capture a beautiful photo of a Red-Backed Fairy Wren! It always amazes me how small fairy wrens are in the flesh. This little fellow posed beautifully for me and today Iāve finally had a chance to paint him!

According to my last poll 54% of you have seen a black cockatoo in the wild. Iām super jealous! Itās still on my bucket list to see one of these beauties in the wild. Until then, this painting will have to do!
I made some good progress today. Iām definitely looking forward to seeing this one finished.
This is at an unusual stage because I have first layers of paint down as well as some final layers. It goes to show how magical the layering technique really is and that the detail and realism is in the layers!
Iām super grateful Louise allowed me to paint her stunning photo šš¼
