šŸ”Ž what’s really in your skincare?

if your skincare needs a recovery phase… maybe it’s worth asking why.

retinol works.

but for me, bakuchiol is the better fit šŸ¤

if you’d like to give it a try, click the link in bio and you can grab yourself a bottle. it’s all natural, it works (people have been commenting on my skin ever since I started using it) and it’s inexpensive.

i spent years thinking i needed to cover my skin.

the redness.
the pigmentation.
the texture.
the fact that i’m a human being with actual skin šŸ˜…

these days?

i don’t bother.

most mornings it’s coffee, brows, lashes and out the door.

because i’ve realised something:

i don’t actually want to look different.

i just want to look like me.

a little more awake.
a little more framed.
a little more put together.

that’s what brows and lashes do.

they highlight the face instead of hiding it.

and honestly?

that’s enough.

no foundation.
no filters.
no pretending.

just skin šŸ¤

the refillable "pod" is the new greenwashing.

most refillable inserts are made from mixed plastics that are basically impossible for local facilities to process. they end up in the bin anyway.

the catch: brands use refills to make you feel good while selling more plastic.

mono-material packaging > bulky refillable jars.

real sustainability is transparency.

stop falling for the bs.

anti-ageing is dead.

rip 1990-2026. the industry just gave it a fancy makeover because we finally stopped falling for the ā€œwrinkle-freeā€ promise.

now they’re selling you ā€˜longevity’, ā€˜cellular health’, and ā€˜healthspan’. same face, new lipstick.

let’s talk about the alphabet soup: nad+ and nmn. one is the fuel, the other is the precursor. the industry wants you to think topical nad+ is the fountain of youth, but it’s mostly fairy dust.

🚩 the catch? those molecules are way too big to actually be absorbed by your skin.

why drop $300 on a ā€˜longevity’ cream when good old niacinamide (also a precursor!) works harder and costs less? don’t get caught in the $300 trap.

real longevity = barrier health.

not 10-step routines that strip your skin raw. it’s about intentionality over aesthetic trends.

hi, i’m zo šŸ¤

i’m 48 and deeply obsessed with natural, organic, plant-based food, skincare, and lifestyle.

for most of my life, i’ve been reading ingredient labels and telling my friends + family what’s actually inside their skincare products šŸ˜…

eventually i realised:
maybe more people want to understand skincare too.

so i started posting here.

the zook lab was created to help decode skincare — to make ingredient lists less confusing and help people make more intentional choices.

but lately i’ve realised something else…

there are products i wish existed.
simple, beautiful, intentional products that align with the way i think skincare should be.

and if i want them… maybe other people do too.

so maybe this becomes more than content.
maybe we build something.

thanks for being here this early 🌿
