Well said First Responder Wellness Research 🙏🩷

**Not all psychological wounds are the same.**
In today's conference, this was the description of trauma that stood out to me the most! I am so thankful to have the opportunity to share these ideas with you.

These three statements may sound similar, but they reflect very different experiences:

**PTSD**

> "I hear the screams and cannot sleep."

PTSD often develops after experiencing or witnessing traumatic events. Symptoms can include intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, avoidance, and feeling constantly on guard. The injury is rooted in fear and trauma.

**Moral Injury**

> "I followed protocol, and someone died. I betrayed what I stand for."

Moral injury occurs when someone feels they have violated—or been unable to uphold—their deeply held moral or ethical beliefs. It is often accompanied by guilt, shame, self-blame, and spiritual or existential distress. Unlike PTSD, the central emotion isn't fear—it's the feeling that something fundamental about one's values has been damaged.

**Betrayal-Based Moral Injury**

> "My department sacrificed me to protect itself."

Sometimes the injury isn't caused by the event itself; it comes from feeling betrayed by the people or institutions you trusted. When leaders, organizations, or systems fail to support those they serve, the result can be profound anger, distrust, isolation, and a loss of faith in the profession.

For first responders, military personnel, healthcare professionals, and others working in high-stress careers, these experiences can overlap. A person may experience PTSD, moral injury, betrayal-based moral injury, or a combination of all three.

Understanding the difference matters because it shapes how we support healing.

Not every wound is visible.
Not every wound comes from the trauma itself.
And not every wound heals the same way.

💬 Have you heard these terms before? Do you think organizations are doing enough to recognize the difference?

Yoga with Karney is now on YouTube.

This is where I film raw and unedited yoga classes. Some are whilst I am teaching my beautiful veteran yogi's, whilst others are filmed at home in my yoga room.

As always, I am real and I am authentic.

People appreciate authentic individuals as they know they have nothing to hide and therefore are more likely to feel comfortable with them.

My clips will cover a range of physical abilities. If there is a sequence you would like to try, but you are unsure how to go about it with your injuries, feel free to drop me a line.

Remember: Always to listen to your body and you can't go wrong. 🙏🩷

A quick reminder before our Sunday yoga class.

Remember: You need to feel, to heal. 🙏🩷

This pose I personally use for my tight hips.

I start off with a more narrow stance, and as my hips begin to loosen, I then widen my legs.

As always, listen to your body and only increase when the body says too. 🙏🩷

🐸 Frog Pose (Mandukasana Variation): A Deep Hip-Opening Stretch

This powerful stretch targets the inner thighs, hips, and pelvic region, helping improve flexibility, mobility, and posture. Practiced mindfully, Frog Pose can release tension stored in the lower body and promote better movement patterns throughout the day.

✨ Breathe deeply, relax into the stretch, and let your body open naturally.
