Most of the time, covert narcissists are known as one of the nicest people others have ever met. They are the helper. The humble one. The good neighbor. The religious one. The wise one. The victim. The pillar of the community. The person everyone goes to for advice.

That is why if you tell people, “My partner is a covert narcissist,” many of them will not believe you. They will believe the narcissist because their mask is that convincing.

Outside the home, they look kind, generous, calm, spiritual, helpful, and pure. Inside the home, they can be cold, controlling, neglectful, cruel, and completely different.

This is why partners and children of covert narcissists can take years to understand what they are dealing with. The public image is so strong that even the victim starts doubting their own reality.

That is the danger of covert narcissism. Their abuse is hidden behind their reputation.
