2026: Stay focused, stay inspired.
Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees. Everyday tasks and distractions keep bogging you down. And even though you keep putting one foot in front of the other, always moving, it is like you are blind as to where you are and perhaps more so to where you are going. Because you are so focused on moving forward, perhaps just looking down at your feet to avoid tripping, you are missing the bigger picture and perhaps also the treasures that are within reach. Sometimes it is worth stopping for a moment, to take a breath and reset your focus. Equally important is to stay inspired, because otherwise, what is the point of it all? Travelling is an excellent way to do both, at the same time.
“I think you travel to search and you come back home to find yourself there.”
(Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie)

Take it travelling! Anywhere!
I spent yesterday at the NextGen Tourism Expo 2025, listening and learning about ideas on how to move towards a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive tourism industry in Botswana. Shifting mindsets, thinking afresh.
Storytelling can be a significant tool in capturing an audience, not just in terms of marketing a specific destination but also more generally to provide access to stories seldom told beyond the national borders.
Poetry certainly captured the audience present at the Expo – I was blown away by Gorata Shalom Molapisi’s performance and poem “Where footprints whisper”, which began and ended like this:
“I didn’t come to perform,
But to remember,
Not to impress,
But to reflect
This is not just a poem –
It’s a path.
A whisper from the earth,
Asking:
“Will you walk gently?
…
And when you leave,
May your footprints fade
But your impact stay.”
