Four years ago,
my body spoke a language I did not yet understand.

Type 1 diabetes.

1,460 days
~7,300 injections
Countless sleepless nights
Emergencies averted
A mind that never stops calculating
This life is not just in the body.
It lives in the mind.
Thinking ahead.
Planning.
Preparing.
Never fully letting go.

Every meal = a decision
Every outing = a strategy
Every night = a question
Every day = a test

Doing nothing? Never an option.
Some days this body feels like a betrayal.

A body that fights me, humbles me, challenges me.

And yet… it has taught me strength.
Discipline.
Resilience.
Courage.
How to put myself first.
How to rise when tired.
How to keep going when heavy.
And yes… it is heavy.
Just because I carry it well, doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy.

✨ 3 Years Strong ✨
Today marks my 3-year diaversary — three years since life changed in ways I never expected.

I was 48 years old when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Not a child, not a teen — but a full-grown adult navigating life, work, family... and suddenly, this chronic, relentless condition.
⠀
That’s 1,095 days.
Approximately 5,400 injections.
Countless sleepless nights.
And a pile of juice boxes that could probably reach the moon.

What started as fear and frustration has turned into strength, resilience, and a whole new level of self-awareness. Type 1 diabetes isn’t easy — it never will be — but it’s taught me how to fight for my health, advocate for myself, and find power in my daily wins (big and small).

One of the brightest parts of this journey? My diabuddy — my 16-year-old niece, who has been living with Type 1 for almost 15 years. Her courage, wisdom, and grace continue to inspire me every single day. She was my guide when I was newly diagnosed and continues to be my rock. 💙

I also wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of my family and friends. From understanding my highs and lows, to asking questions, checking in, and just being there — your support has meant everything. Thank you for standing with me through it all. 🤍

I’ve had highs, lows (literally), tears, laughs, burnout, and breakthroughs. And through it all, I’m still here — learning, growing, and thriving. 💪

To anyone newly diagnosed — especially as an adult — I see you. You’re not alone. This journey is hard, but you’re stronger than you think.
