Hi folks! Osas here πŸ‘‹
It's been a minuteπŸ˜₯

I did an interview with CBC World Reports about harmful chemicals in Black hair care products. They also interviewed a dr. in the U.S. Here's the link, have a list starting at πŸ‘πŸΏ07:48.

One of the questions that's still on my mind that the reporter asked me was.......What solution would I like to see for this issue???

I gave him a response. Obviously, I could go on for days about this but I want to hear what other people have to say about this. So please share. What solution would YOU like to see?

New Date / πŸ‘©πŸΏβ€πŸ«
Hi fam!
You made my day when I saw that the event was SOLD OUT for Jan. 15 (swipe πŸ‘ˆπŸΏ to see). About 80 people had signed up for the workshop!!! πŸ˜πŸ€—πŸ˜˜
But as much as I would love to do the event this weekend, I can't. My household contracted COVID-19 and I'm not πŸ’― right now. There was a positive case at our kids' daycare. We got tested at the AHS assessment facility at the Expo Centre and our results came back positive. My poor Baba (3) was the first one it hit. Then it knocked me off my feet, followed by Babe. Baby girl (1) was the last one to get it. This is what we've been dealing with this week. Everyone is a mess. Everyone is out of their wits, and drained. The symptoms come and go. One minute, I feel okay. Later on I'm near passing out. And the headaches ugh. Regardless, I feel blessed that that we're able to recover safely at home and not alone in an ICU or anything like that.
I'm focusing on recovering and giving my tribe the TLC they need.
To give me time to get better---and to keep my hair model safe---the workshop has been moved to Jan. 22....see πŸ”— in bio.
πŸ‘‰πŸΏπŸ‘‰πŸΏπŸ‘‰πŸΏ Please note that YOU HAVE TO RE-REGISTER AGAIN so that you can get the Zoom link. EPL cannot just register you for the new date because they don't have your permission to do that. I'd still love to see all your faces and do my best to help you with your natural hair concerns, so remember to sign up again.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Imposter syndrome is real. And most of us suffer from it, silently.
I did something silly but good last year about my imposter syndrome.
Because I'm not a hair stylist and I did not go to hair school, I used to have an imposter syndrome about organizing natural hair shows, and using what I've learned over the years to teach others and help them with their hair problems.
To solve my issue---and also because I wanted to do something fun that brought me joy in this depressing never-ending pandemic loop---I took a Natural Hair Program to become a Natural Hair Consultant. I also did it because I wanted to test myself and see how much of the program was different from what I already knew about natural hair from over the years. The program was awesome!!! More than a dozen info-packed modules later and additional suggested readings, assignments, and quizzes, it was reassuring (and still fun) to see that I knew most of the things that was being taught.
It was silly for me to test myself in this way. But it was necessary. Because often time, we feel like we need to know everything and have it perfect before we can step out and do that thing that we want to do. We feel that we need more education and more this and more that. Sometimes, what we're feeling is legitimate. Sometimes, what we're feeling is fear or an imposter syndrome. When it's an imposter syndrome that you're dealing with, trust yourself that the skills, experience, and passion that you bring to the game is enough to start where you're at. Meet yourself whoever you're at in your journey. And where you're at is a good place to start or to continue doing what you do. So....go do that thing that you want to do. Stop distracting yourself with side thoughts that don't matter.πŸ’—
Did I NEED to do the program? No. Did I enjoy the program and learn something. 100%. And I plan to take the refresher course every couple of years as the program gets updated. It feels like we've been stuck in this pandemic forever. Conquering the program was fun and a much needed positive distraction from COVID. It elevated my spirit---and I learned stuff!!
Happy learning!

The natural hair show has always been more than a Show. A name that embodies that is CANADA NATURAL HAIR & BEAUTY EXPERIENCE (CNHbe).
This name has been a longtime coming. If you signed up for our newsletter, you would've had a chance to share your suggestion when you got the survey. I know it's some time later, but here we are. Thank you to everyone who took a minute to recommend a new name. A combination of keywords and phrases from the names you suggested and that you used to describe the hair show gave birth to the new name πŸ™ŒπŸΏπŸ’—πŸŽˆ.

Evolve // πŸ’—
Ever since I started the hair show (and everything else that's come with that), there’s one question that's always been constant: WHY AM I DOING THIS?
I try to keep that question, and every variation of it, front and centre on this journey that I’ve been on since 2016. Why am I doing this? Who cares? Does this matter? Why does this matter? Is this helping ANYBODY?
Why am I doing this: I feel like it’s in me to give, so why not (yes, I know, it sounds like a CBS commercial β€œBlood. It’s in you to give.”) But it’s true. I know a good bit about natural hair than the average person. I can use what I know to help others on their journey, which can be daunting.Β

Most of the time, I underestimate how much I know and how passionate I am about learning even more. Also I assume that everyone knows as much about natural hair as I do and that they don't need help. But there are people who do need some support. I'm happy to help.

Who cares/Does this matter/Why does this matter: I talk about representation all the time (on my personal channel and this page). It’s not just a hashtag. It’s about real people. It’s about real people’s lives, bodies, confidence, esteem, identity, mental health, and things like that. I’m glad that there are millions of people on the natural hair scene now who are elevating how important all those points are and what natural hair has to do with it.

Is this helping ANYBODY: Sometimes, I have my doubts. But I’m also aware of the text messages, audios, emails, DMs etc that I continuously get from individuals and parents about how the natural hair show helped them see things differently or taught them something new or inspired their little girl to stand a little taller with her head up high. So there’s that.Β
My questions now include: Is a hair show the best way I can help others? Is there something I could do differently? Is there more that I could be doing?
There’s more that I want to do. There’s more that I have the privilege to do. So why not try and see how it goes?!!! πŸ’—
Cheers to the willingness to evolve!
Stay tuned for details on some of the things that are coming down the pike.
