There’s no question that tallow skincare has grown in popularity lately. While many still believe it’s “trendy” -the fact is our ancestors were smearing rendered animal fat on their skin centuries before “trend” was even a word.

With increased popularity has come an increase of available options and while this is great, it’s important to know HOW the tallow you use was rendered.

Many tallow options are over-processed, bleached, and filled with preservatives which render (pun intended) the final product compromised. They might look and smell pretty , but they no longer have the nutrient content that tallow is known for.

What we do: All our tallow is dry rendered once. No water, no salt, no multiple rounds. Low and slow ensures the integrity of your tallow remains intact so you can trust your purchase will give you ALL the benefits you’re using tallow for.

What to look for: Look for ingredients lists that have zero preservatives. Beware products that have no scent (tallow naturally has a light buttery smell), and if possible ask your provider about their rendering process. Too many renders and high heat (saves time but destroys nutrients) are things to look out for.

The cure for dry, dull, itchy winter skin ?

Fat.

Your skin wants fat.

Why? Because it is bioavailable. Our skin recognizes it and the vitamins and nutrients it offers and gobbles it up.

Low-key favourite product in the lineup : Tallow soap bars. Let me tell you about these two uncomplicated, classic bars

Soap making is basically a chemistry project. Since I’m NOT a chemist (and I lean towards simplicity, in general) I love making these 2 and 3 ingredient bars.

Our soap is exactly what it sounds like: pure tallow or a tallow/coconut oil blend- but don’t worry, it’s not a blob of fat sitting in your soap dish. The key to turning fat into soap is lye (sodium hydroxide). Combine the right amount of tallow (and coconut oil), water, and heat you get saponified fat . AKA soap!

Both soaps boast all the cleaning power you need, creamy lather, and are free from fragrances and anything artificial making them amazing for all skin types.

Bonus: they last way longer than plant based bars so they’re a great bang for your buck 😘

Whipping up a fresh batch of vanilla bean whipped tallow 🤎

This blend is a unique mix of tallow infused with organic vanilla beans and rounded out with jojoba AND castor oil. The addition of castor oil gives it a richness and extra boost of nutrients especially helpful in these very dry months .

Tallow and winter ❄️ : here’s what to know !

Apply as often as you feel! It’s dry out there, and since we’re all spending more time inside (getting less fresh air) and getting less sun, our skin is begging for nourishment.

Unlike conventional lotions (which are mostly water, btw) Tallow is rich in fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K making it the ultimate topical treatment for your skin, especially this season. Your skin will gobble it up and thank you for it!

Oily skin? Please stop stripping your skin of its natural oils -this makes your body produce MORE oil. Tallow gives your skin the nutrients it is crying for and balances out oil production, bringing your skin back to its happy place.

Choose tallow this winter , your only regret will be why you didn’t do it sooner 😘

Quick tip: remember, tallow is a fat and will be slightly firmer in cooler temps. Warm it up in your hands before applying and it’ll soften right up for smooth application
