No one talks about this part of healing enough.
Everyone talks about getting out of survival mode.
Leaving the toxic relationship.
Setting the boundary.
Getting through the divorce.
Escaping the chaos.
Healing the trauma.
But nobody talks about what happens after.
The strange anxiety that shows up when life finally gets quiet.
The feeling that something is wrong because nothing is wrong.
The way your nervous system keeps scanning for the next problem, even when there isn't one.
The way peace can feel uncomfortable when you've spent years living in stress.
I remember reaching a point where the crisis was over.
The pressure had lifted.
The constant stress wasn't there anymore.
And instead of feeling relieved, I felt anxious.
Restless.
Like I was waiting for the next thing to go wrong.
I couldn't fully enjoy the peace because my body didn't trust it.
My nervous system had spent so long preparing for danger that it didn't know what to do with safety.
So it kept looking for problems.
Creating worst-case scenarios.
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Not because I was broken.
Because my body had learned that being prepared was how I survived.
Nobody tells you that healing isn't just learning how to survive hard things.
Sometimes healing is learning how to feel safe when nothing bad is happening.
Learning how to trust the quiet.
Learning how to receive peace without waiting for it to disappear.
Learning that not every calm moment is the calm before the storm.
If you're in that weird space right now, where life is finally getting better but your body hasn't caught up yet, I want you to know you're not alone.
Your nervous system is learning a new way of being.
And that takes time.
The goal isn't to force yourself to relax.
The goal is to gently teach your body that peace is safe too.
