We keep the sea plastic-free! Protecting our oceans by collecting plastic waste in countries that are

14/07/2026

Last Thursday we hosted a yoga event on the beach in Brighton with the amazing .

Mats out on Hove Lawns, the sun going down, and some of you legends were even brave enough for a sea swim afterwards!

Big thanks to , , , and for the event goodies, and to everyone in the community who came out. For every person who showed up, we committed to collecting 5 kg of plastic waste, meaning a total of 175 kg of plastic has now been collected 💙

The best evening! Let's do it again 🌊

We're so proud to share this one. Last week we announced Clean Nile - our first project in Egypt, in partnership with VeryNile 🇪🇬 Swipe to see what we're building 👉

Villages along the Nile have no formal waste collection. Plastic ends up in the water - devastating fish populations and the communities that depend on them. That's exactly the kind of challenge we want to help solve.

Around 200 women and men are collecting plastic directly from the river alongside their daily catch. By supplementing their incomes by 30%, we're creating a real, lasting reason to keep going. Not a one-off clean-up. A livelihood.

This is what the work looks like up close. Every piece of plastic pulled from the Nile is sorted, processed and tracked.

Every kilogram accounted for. Recyclable plastic enters the recycling supply chain. Non-recyclable plastic is co-processed. Nothing ends up back in nature.

Some of the plastic collected turns into handcrafted products - made by 30+ artisans, 80% of them women and all previously unemployed. Waste becoming work and work becoming opportunity.

And it goes further than plastic. Clean Nile brings a children's education program, healthcare training and a community kitchen to the people at the heart of this project. Because the goal was never just a cleaner river - it was a better quality of life 💙

We'll be sharing impact updates from the ground in the months ahead. Follow along - there's more to come 🙌

So here's where it gets interesting.

The clay diyas that used to float gently down the Yamuna have been replaced by plastic-coated ones that just sink and pile up on the banks.

We're now exploring how that same plastic could be upcycled into real infrastructure for the community — even changing rooms for the women who bathe and pray here every day.

Joel just visited the Yamuna River in Mathura for the first time - and one moment from the trip really stuck with him.
Standing at the ghats, watching centuries of devotion share space with a rising tide of plastic.
A local resident simply asked: "When will the river be clean?"
More on this story soon 🪔

What does your perfect Saturday morning look like? 🌊

This World Oceans Day, we partnered with and for a massive beach cleanup at Jepara’s Kite Beach. While the ocean views look picture-perfect from afar, the shoreline was heavily burdened with plastic waste and over 100 lbs of broken glass.

But thanks to 45 dedicated volunteers, we managed to collect and properly manage 1,870+ lbs of trash!

A huge thank you to everyone involved. Everyone deserves a clean, safe beach to enjoy. Let’s keep this momentum going! 🐋💙

To celebrate World Oceans Day, CleanHub and Airweave joined forces at Kizhoor Beach, India with one shared mission: protecting our oceans.

With the help of 50 dedicated volunteers, 500 kg of waste was removed before it could reach the sea. 🌍🌊

A huge thank you to everyone who came together to help transform this beach!

Conservation isn’t a trend – at it’s an ever-present movement…an ongoing, active commitment. With this in mind, we are thrilled to continue our year-round Scouting for Clean Waterways initiative!

From local streams to coastal shorelines, across the country are proving that small actions lead to massive change. So far, 1,151 units have reported their impact, with 6,832 youth and 4,151 leaders working together to protect our environment – and, there’s plenty more to do. With partners like the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the NOAA Marine Debris Program and CleanHub, we’re off to a great start!

Have you engaged in a Scouting for Clean Waterways project recently? We want to see your hard work! Send your photos and stories to [email protected] with the tag to give us permission to share. (Note: If you’re 18 or under, please CC a parent or trusted adult).

Happy Earth Day from all of us at !

For , the outdoors aren’t just where adventures start – they’re where confidence grows, invaluable memories are made, skills take shape, friendships form and young leaders learn to care for the world around them. From , to those in , to lifelong and everyone between, we have a duty to protect, preserve and keep the great outdoors great for generations to come.

Our programs emphasize skills, values and practices that safeguard the outdoors – and our Scouts bring those skills, values and practices to life.

Through initiatives like Scouting for Clean Waterways, Scouts learn: 1) that their actions make a physical impact and 2) how to care for our planet and all the living things on it. Our partnerships – with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the NOAA Marine Debris Program and CleanHub – allow Scouts to learn more about all waterways (from small streams to vast seas) and reduce marine debris better.

In fact – thanks to our partnership with CleanHub – the plastic that Scouts collect is matched pound for pound. When Scouts clean up tens of thousands of pounds of plastic, CleanHub collects the equivalent amount of plastic waste in the Global South, preventing it from ever reaching the environment. Together we're making a BIG difference to decrease plastic pollution.

Whether it’s practicing Leave No Trace, treating our pets and wildlife with respect, helping keep parks and waterways clean or simply choosing to leave a place better than you found it, every act of stewardship matters. At Scouting America, we’re on a mission to help prepare youth – for life – and we are proud of all the positive, outdoors-focused service youth engage in across the country. The future is bright!

Today we celebrate something powerful: real environmental progress doesn’t come from the top down. It’s built every day by communities, educators, workers, and families coming together.

That’s exactly what drives CleanHub. In partnership with local teams, brands, and individuals, we’re creating real solutions to plastic pollution, while supporting the communities most affected.

Change isn’t a moment. It’s a movement. And you’re part of it.

Happy Earth Day 💚
