An interim analysis of a retrospective cohort study found that vaccination in , given between 32 and 36 weeks’ gestation, was not associated with increased risk of preterm birth, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, premature rupture of membranes, or preterm rupture of membranes.

After robust confounding adjustment and 1:1 matching, safety outcomes for RSVpreF-vaccinated and unvaccinated pregnancies were similar.

isn’t just a problem in Brazil – it’s a growing global threat 🌍🦟

This neglected tropical disease (NTD) continues to hit the most vulnerable the hardest, and it’s spreading faster due to climate change, population movement, and rapid urbanization.
We’ve made some progress against dengue, but still lack one crucial tool: a treatment.

🔬 What causes Fever of Unknown Origin FUO in ?

A recent Egyptian study conducted at (2020–2022) investigated the causes of and revealed important findings:

🦠Key findings:
•66% of FUO cases were due to infections
•Bacterial infections were confirmed in over one-third of patients
•Most bacteria were Gram-negative
•Common Gram-positive bacteria included Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus spp.

⚠️ A worrying trend: Antibiotic resistance

•Around two-thirds of bacterial isolates were multidrug-resistant MDR
•Carbapenem resistance was found in more than 40% of Gram-negative bacteria
•MRSA accounted for about 65% of Staphylococcus aureus isolates
•Resistance genes like blaOXA-48, blaTEM, and blaCTX-M were highly prevalent

đź’Š Why does this matter?
These findings highlight a serious burden of antibiotic-resistant infections among FUO patients, making diagnosis and treatment more challenging.

📌 Take-home message:
The study stresses the urgent need for:
✔️ Stronger antimicrobial stewardship
✔️ Better infection control
✔️ Updated empirical treatment guidelines based on local resistance patterns

đź”” Understanding local bacterial profiles is key to improving patient outcomes and fighting antimicrobial resistance.
