June and lipoedema awareness month are nearly over for 2026 and it’s made me reflect on a few things.

Buckle up cos this might be a long one. I’m always the first person to say others have it worse than me, that things could be worse and remind myself to focus on the positives.

I’ve struggled to do that lately and you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been around much. I try to be open about my mental health as much as my physical because me talking starts conversations that other people might need to have but don’t want to bring up.

June started full of excitement. Mr Unfiltered was going away with my stepdaughter and lots of his side of the family. I was looking forward to a week of peace, starfishing and not dealing with the couch commando taking control of the tv for 7 whole days while they made precious memories before Megan goes off to uni. Bliss!

The day after they’d left I got a call telling me that the adaptations I needed to the house so I could be issued with a Powerchair from the NHS couldn’t be done. After jumping through hoops, telling my medical history and physical limitations to numerous people it was all for nothing. The situation now is I continue to be housebound unless Mr Unfiltered is around to push my chair.

My current chair isn’t self propel so I’m reliant on him. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve been independent my whole life. My first day of nursery I made my mum cry by settling so well and telling her to go home. No tears, not a backward glance. For the last 6 year’s independence outside the home hasn’t been an option.

I’m going away with my sister and best friend on Friday for the weekend and I haven’t been away without Mr Unfiltered since I lost my mobility. I’ve been in denial about how much help I need to do things and now I’m swinging so wildly between excitement and anxiety that I can’t catch my breath.

Why am I putting this on my business page you ask? Well, because my business is trying to help other women feel good, like they can take on the world and win with just some fabulous lashes and a bold lipstick. I just wanted to be honest and say I’m here taking on my version of the world with some anxiety, a dash of despair as well as the lipstick.

Day 6. My beautiful, funny, kind mother in law makes me super happy. My husband is her favourite of the three siblings and at nearly 51 she still calls him Baby David. As she says, he’s her two eyes but even though she makes it clear to everyone how amazing he is (her opinion, I think he’s an arse on times 😉) Elen has always made me feel like family and if she thinks I’m not good enough for him, she’s never shown me 😂 Elen lives with mixed dementia but still lives and loves with gusto. Seeing her singing along to Roy Orbison fills me with joy 💜
