WIRRAL WOMAN'S AWE-INSPIRING JOURNEY INTO SHAMANISM - La Vida Liverpool When most people think about shamanism, they usually picture tribal people dancing around a fire and chanting to the Gods. Not a woman living on the outskirts of West Kirby, Wirral. Christine Holt, however, has changed the goalposts β having dedicated her life to travelling the world and learning ...

I'm looking forward to being here this Saturday. There will be an eclectic mix of holistic practitioners, psychic mediums and traders selling all things spiritual and beautiful.
I'll be giving taster sessions in Focusing, a body-based modality that is one element of Somatic Shamanism. It's an opportunity to gain an insight into what it feels like to turn inward and let the body speak.
Focusing is a way of moving beyond what we know with the mind and going deeper into the body, tuning into that vague, unarticulated sense of a feeling before it's fully formed into words. It's the skill of learning to access the body's intuitive wisdom.
You can pre-book in advance by WhatsApp message 07542 186137
I'm also currently running promotional offers for Somatic Shamanism so feel free to take a flyer.
A hidden story behind every photo.
13 years sober.
The full story isn't really about alcohol. It's about the patterns, wounds and healing that sat underneath it all and a journey to creating Sound Our Souls.

PRACTITIONER HIGHLIGHT β SOUND OUR SOULS
Have you ever felt pulled in different directions internally?
Do you notice repetitive patterns in your feelings, behaviours or relationships that seem to keep showing up no matter how much you want things to change?
This week on Holistic Index we're highlighting Emma from Sound Our Souls.
Emma offers online Somatic Shamanism sessions, working with the connection between body, mind, soul and spirit to help people explore what may be holding them back and create lasting change.
Her work supports people experiencing anxiety, trauma, low confidence, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, and those who simply feel disconnected from themselves and ready for something to shift.
Each session moves at your own pace, creating a safe space to explore what is held within the body and begin releasing what has been carried for too long.

Today I have been sober for thirteen years.
I left home at sixteen and from then, with more opportunity available to me, I started relying on substances to cope. Ma*****na became a daily habit over about twelve years. With alcohol it was more sporadic, coming and going in bouts depending on where I was in my life, but whenever I did drink, I binged until I blacked out. I stopped smoking when I moved to Bali but I travelled ten thousand miles and took all my problems with me, carrying on drinking out there and repeating my pattern of going for emotionally unavailable men.
It wasn't until I was pregnant that I stopped drinking. But when my son started sleeping through the night I stupidly "treated" myself to a bottle of wine, somehow forgetting that I couldn't moderate. What started as a treat became a secret. A double life. During the day I'd do family oriented things with my son and then alone at night I'd get absolutely obliterated.
When he was coming up to three I realised I had no control. I knew I had to stop for good.
Stopping drinking was just the beginning. I now had to face everything I'd been using alcohol to drown out.
Thirteen years later I'm still doing that work. I'm not a guru. I've not arrived at some lofty healed place. I'm just someone who started walking this path a while ago, and because of that I can walk alongside others on theirs.
The empathy and compassion I bring to my work isn't something I learned from a textbook. It came from living it. Learning to have compassion for myself was really, really hard. It's something I now help others find too.
If any of this resonates, whether you're struggling with addiction or the patterns and wounds that sit beneath it, I'd love to support you. Email address in the comments below for a free 30 minute consultation.

Hello everyone π
I wanted to share a little more of my story.
I left home at sixteen and spent many years struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, insomnia and repeating dysfunctional patterns, particularly in relationships.
Having my son was my turning point. I got sober and found my way into therapy, where I worked with an incredible therapist for seven years. That work was foundational. It helped me understand so much about myself, where my patterns came from and why I felt the way I did.
I will always be grateful for it, but by the end I felt there was more to do.
I'd been learning about trauma held in the body and developing spiritually, and I began looking for something more holistic, something that incorporated all of that into healing.
I tried different things over the years, meditation, sound healing, which I trained in. Shamanism kept appearing on my path. Eventually I found a shamanic counsellor who would become my teacher, and through working with her first as a client I discovered Somatic Shamanism.
For the first time I wasn't just talking about what had happened or understanding why I reacted a certain way. I was meeting the parts of myself that carried those wounds directly, in my body, with compassion, and I had access to a whole other level of healing through shamanic support.
That's what I now offer through Sound Our Souls. π
I understand what it's like to feel stuck in patterns you can't seem to shift.
To know intellectually what needs to change, yet find yourself experiencing the same feelings and repeating the same reactions over and over.
My own healing journey led me to discover a deeper way of working that goes beyond simply talking about our experiences.
If you've ever wondered why change can feel so difficult, you can read more about my story via the link in comments, where you will also find my contact details.
