New Year can often ignite an impulse for change and we might resolve to act and give energy to new projects or ideas which we feel will help us to grow or become 'better' versions of ourselves. January for me however can feel heavy and really darn tiring. It might be due to the pressure and expectation to bound into action and resolutions, but really I think it's more to do with our disconnect from nature which at this very moment lies sleepy and dreaming and without the pressure to be or do anything else.
It's easy to get swept up in the commercial noise and media of January which strives to fuel insecurities and feelings of lack so that we buy, subscribe or falter over our sense of self. This year I plan instead to take a leaf out of nature's book and hope to create a routine which echoes our wintery context, thereby inviting rest, reflection and dreaming.
In this liminal space I intend to keep the noise down, to honour the space between no longer and not yet, ready for ideas to burst forth and become in the spring, when nature guides us to sprout and harness opportunity.
The start of this year will be guided by soft intent instead of hard resolve, allowing space to dream and cultivate, with a focus on feeling instead of doing.
โ๐ ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฅ๐ ๐ค๐๐๐:
โ๏ธ Retreat to bed a little earlier - maybe to read, or journal or listen to a guided meditation.
โ๏ธ Moments of calm before the day begins - maybe sleeping in or waking a little earlier to read a page of my book, to meditate for 5 minutes, to savour a few extra minutes in the shower or that warm hug with a loved one.
โ๏ธ Finding movement that feels good. Perhaps a good stretch and a yawn, maybe a slow flow yoga practice or a walk
โ๏ธ Find moments to get outside and absord the daylight
โ๏ธ Cooking warming winter food which is seasonal and satisfying
โ๏ธ Creating a calming space in which to retreat for the evening - I'm thinking candles, hot water bottles, bed socks, blankets and soft lighting.
Instead of grabbing January by the baubles, I intend to welcome January in for a nice cup of cocoa ๐โค๏ธ๐

So this is an interesting readโฆ
I did the Deepen your practice course at Ministry of Yoga in Crewe back in 2018-2019, and honestly it was one of the most transformational courses I have ever studied.
The wonderful Shelley Aspden led us through the ancient teachings of Yoga in a holistic way, demonstrating how they can be applied to our modern way of life. I think this was done in a very respectful way, and I canโt think of a better way to learn than from someone with lots of experience and who has studied abroad with master Yogis from all over the world.
I wholeheartedly recommend the course, which I believe is starting again soon! If youโd like to know more about it feel free to reach out.
I also made some incredible friends through it, some of whom are coming to my wedding in April ๐ฅฐ More widely, I have made LOADS of friends over the years through Yoga classes, workshops, courses and retreats.
When like minded people get together, the community that blossoms is incredible! Case in pointโฆ

Happy Sunday ๐ฅฐ
Iโve been using the Spotify Daily Wellness playlist for a couple of weeks now, and Iโve really enjoyed it so far! Nice mix of music and podcasts from a variety of speakers to help motivate you in the morning - I can recommend it ๐

Iโve just finished the series on Managing Anxiety, so today I chose a one off meditation on โGoing with the flowโ ๐โฃ
โฃ
I found the visualisation of the stream really helpful ๐ง I didnโt meditate this weekend, and I really missed it!
Not sure which series I will try next... I have dipped in and out of the Focus Series before, but perhaps itโs time to finish it ๐ค
Who else in here uses headspace or other guided meditation apps? Which types of meditation do you find beneficial, and what could you recommend to the community here? Share in the comments ๐

Now that we are allowed to travel for exercise in the UK, a change of scenery for our Sunday hike was very much appreciated ๐ โฃ
โฃ
13.92km from Edale in the Peak District, up Kinder Scout and back down was challenging after our mostly flat walks along the canal and in the Cheshire countryside these past few months! ๐
โฃ
โฃ
The views from the top and the sense of achievement definitely made it all worthwhile ๐ I then managed to fall over on the way down, but I was fine, worry not! It gave us something to giggle about ๐โฃ
โฃ
Which challenging hikes have you done which you would recommend? Either in the UK or further afield - Iโm going to make a list of places to explore post lockdown! ๐ฅพโฃ
