Being an AuDHD hairdresser is a confusing mix of:

✨loving chaos
✨thriving under pressure
✨hyper focusing for 10 hours straight

And then suddenly realising your body has been filing complaints all week that you have been ignoring 🫠

I genuinely think so many neurodivergent women get SO used to overriding pain and discomfort that we don’t notice until we physically CRASH 💥

Yes I prayed for a fully booked week but I also forgot a require things like

✨food
✨water
✨rest
✨posture
✨functioning shoulder joints

The salon equivalent of ‘it will be fine’ 🤦🏼‍♀️

The seasons are still changing, who am I kidding it’s Scotland we get all seasons in a day at the moment. This means being prepared for changing temperatures 🌡️

A major sensory issue for me is temperature. I can’t cope with being cold 🥶 I always like to have more layers than I need so I can strive to be cosy even on a warm day.

I love to get dressed for me, reflect my mood in my choices, or sometimes change my mood if I need a lift. Dopamine dressing really does work!

What’s your thoughts on these 1️⃣-8️⃣ I would love to know your faves!

Taking these photos really helps me to be creative and mix up my choices in the morning, I’m really enjoying sharing a part of me that I love and hope you do to!

Got diagnosed and immediately entered my “oh what a minute” era 🤪

Sometimes understanding yourself shines a light on family patterns, coping styles, sensitivities, routines, communication differences, and all the little things that once just got called “quirky”

Not everything is a sign, and I’m not here to diagnose anyone. But for many late diagnosed women, understanding yourself can also bring compassion for the people who came before you, people who may never had the language, support, or option to be understood 💕

Research suggests neurodevelopmental differences like Autism and ADHD often have a strong hereditary component. Which means many adults don’t just recognise traits in themselves, they begin noticing familiar patterns across generations

Getting diagnosed can feel like learning a new language for your own life, and sometimes for your family dynamics too 🙃

Sometimes healing looks like insight. Sometimes it looks like texting your mum 💕

I’m very fortunate to be supported by amazing parents, especially my mum who was willing to make her ‘dancing on the internet’ debut. I’m CERTAINLY NOT diagnosing her with anything 🙃 but I would say the apple 🍎 doesn’t fall far from the tree (apart from the height difference 🤪)

Did anyone else get diagnosed and immediately think OH S**T 😱That explains the household vibe.

Doing hair is the easy part 🙃

It’s the post social interaction debrief that takes me out

Did I talk enough?
Did I talk too much?
Did I overshare?
Did I interrupt?
Did we accidentally become best friends?

AuDHD gals in social jobs know the real shift starts after everyone leaves, and the over thinking arrives

I appreciate not everyone who relates to this is neurodivergent, this is just my lived experience 🙋🏼‍♀️

If you work with people tell me the question you would love to ask at the end of each interaction ⬇️

I lucked out with the strong sense of justice autism ✌🏼

Along side that my pattern recognition is second to none.

I’m grateful for the many wonderful men in my life that support and speak up, but it’s sad that they are still the minority.

When millions of men are engaging in content that actively harms women, and at the same time industries (including hairdressing) continue to centre men in positions of power, visibility and authority, you cannot expect women to stay quiet, polite and accommodating.

We are seeing it in real time.

Male ambassador’s taking the majority space in a 90% female industry. Leadership opportunities being handed out and a general tone of ‘that’s just how it is’ 🙃

Surely it doesn’t have to be?

And as a neurodivergent person I don’t have the ability (or desire) to ignore unfair systems.

This isn’t about tearing men down. It’s about asking why women are being overlooked, more specifically in an industry that’s supported and built by them.

If this makes you uncomfortable then good. Discomfort is where change starts 🙏🏼

Tell me your experiences I know I’m not the only one seeing this ⬇️

Thanks for this amazing audio 💕
