It is easy to neglect our physical health and not pay much attention to how we treat our bodies. But our bodies deserve to be loved and treated with care. This summer challenge yourself to become healthier.
Here are some ways you can do that
1. Try experimenting with healthier recipes
2. Drink more water
3. Plan workout dates with your friends
4. Go for a walk regularly
5. Socialise with groups in parks and gardens
6. Be mindful of the amount of time you spend on your phone and instead spend time outside in nature

Investing in being healthier is investing in yourself. With the Olympics happening right now it is a great time to be inspired and try new sports. Encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Spending time in nature promotes positive wellbeing and mental health. It helps to reduce stress and promote self esteem and self confidence. It also has educational benefits by encouraging young people to use their imagination, learn about the amazing things nature has to offer and by stimulations the senses.

Spending time in nature increases young people’s well-being, motivation and confidence. So this summer ensure the young people are given the opportunity to make the most of being in nature.

It is important that we continue to raise
awareness and remove the stigma surrounding mental health so that people feel comfortable to reach out for support. Every community has a responsibility to ensure that there are resources and support available.

12/07/2021

Community services can play a crucial role in promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma/discrimination and supporting people to better their quality of life. Having mental health issues can impact many areas of our lives e.g. relationships, work and physical health. Without the right support it can prevent you from living the life you want.

Many communities and local services are faced with the issue of having low resources and being underfunded because mental health isn’t prioritised in their communities and by their governments. Without funding and resources, these mental health services are not able to provide the care and service the community needs.

It is important that mental health services are prioritised and are given funding and resources so that they can continue to promote mental health awareness and support the members of the community to thrive and achieve their best.

Change is inevitable. Sometimes it can be positive – business growth or a pay raise. At other times it can be painful – losing your job or a personal loss. Often the hardest changes to understand and adjust to are the ones that are unexpected and out of our control.

Practicing different ways of thinking and being in the world can boost your ability to deal with change and help you create a life that is adaptive to new places and unexpected events. Here are some tips to help deal with changes in life:
1. Acknowledge that things are changing
2. Realise that even good change can cause stress
3. Keep up your regular schedule as much as possible
4. Try to eat as healthily as possibly
5. Exercise
6. Write down the positives that come from this change
7. Seek support
8. Be proactive

Prioritising your health in life’s transitions means not being afraid to ask for help when you need it. Talk to family and friends who are experiencing similar changes, or consider finding a support group in your community.

Many people are hesitant to get help for health issues. The most common reasons for why people don’t seek help for health issues are:
1. Fear and shame - People acknowledge the negative stigma and discrimination surrounding health issues (especially mental health) and they are scared of being labelled and how this can affect their life.
2. Lack of insight - Some people are not aware that what they are experiencing is poor health and that they need help. Some don’t see that there is anything wrong so they don’t seek help.
3. Limited awareness - Lack is awareness causes people to not be fully aware of how bad their health issues are.
4. Feelings of inadequacy - Some people feel that they are weak or a failure if they ask for help with heath issues. So they prefer to deal with it on their own.
5. Distrust - For some it is difficult to speak to a doctor or heath professional about personal things such as health.
6. Hopelessness - Some people feel that nothing and no one can help them and they find it difficult to see a way that they can get better.
7. Unavailability - In some areas resources are limited so a person may be willing to seek professional help but there are no support systems available in their area.

Talking about these issues, they can then be encouraged to seek care to relieve their distress. Ongoing efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination are essential to send the clear message that it’s ok to talk openly about health issues and to ask for help.
