So many people do not understand what PR is. It’s not advertising, it’s not demanding that journalists write copy for our clients, it’s not standing at a shopping centre handing out merchandise or leaflets... PR people are storytellers. We learn our client’s business, find the positives and work to communicate that to the world in the most effective way possible. We build and enhance reputations, and protect when needed. We build relationships between organisations and the public, with the press, stakeholders, as well as ensure that a business operates just as well internally as it does externally.
In a content busy world, you have to be creative to make your brand stand out. This could be a business, instagrammer, blogger... cutting through the noise is relevant to all. How can you do that? Personally we love a painted mural on the side of a building, or artwork that has a hidden key message, using vibrant colours to catch a viewer’s attention. What about a photo or video contest on Instagram? To get people talking about your brand? Being visual, interactive and relevant is vital. According to Forbes, 91 per cent of consumers prefer visual content over text. How visual is your content? How colourful and vibrant is it? Does it have a hidden message? Get people talking about you? Make your next post eye catching, colourful and have at least one key message. Is your engagement slightly higher?

Eye catching and inspirational content is a must to cut through the chatter in today’s noisy content-driven world. We love the ‘show don’t tell’ approach to visual storytelling, like FedEx’s continental maps on a wall imagery in our next image across. Getting creative with an image can liven it up and get your key message across without having to literally spell it out. How creative are you with your designs? We just love this graffiti art. This would be a great ad for a sunglasses brand. If you saw that painted on a wall you would most certainly stop and stare - followed by having your own image taken in front of it!

If you post to infrequently your followers will forget that you exist, however, if you post too often you will become a complete nuisance as your posts will crowd their page. Quality over quantity every time! What’s your thoughts? How often do you post to your feed?

Most entrepreneurs feel that they have to do everything. You know your business, of course, but you’re not an expert at every task within your business. Stop attempting to do the things that you do not do well, and instead focus on the things that you do best. If you were good at PR you’d have a PR business! We have the knowledge, experience and contacts. Do you? Sometimes it’s beneficial to hire an expert in a particular field that your business needs, whether that’s PR or another aspect of your company that you are unsure about, but grinding through every day with little results to show for the time spent doing those tasks. Smart business models take this into account as the business grows. The biggest risk in business is to not take any risk. Don’t follow the crowd with your brand, business and press strategies - be rebellious and stand out from the crowd. Good examples of this done well is the Dove campaign for Real Beauty, that showcased women in their underwear that were make up free and of various shapes and sizes. This was completely unheard of in 2006. By pushing the idea of beauty coming from within, Dove was able to spark a conversation about what it means to be beautiful, showcasing their brand worldwide in doing so. Look at your business today and be critical. What are you doing that no one else is? Are you being rebellious enough to stand out?
