Have you got tight hamstrings ? (as you can see here I have not and I have never had tight hamstrings… and that is purely down to genetics.! )

If you struggle in forward folds in yoga and think this is purely down to your hamstrings , think again ! Forward folds aren’t just about “flexible hamstrings.”

To access depth in poses like Uttanasana and Paschimottanasana, the hips also need the ability to internally rotate.

Without enough IR, the pelvis can’t glide forward efficiently over the femurs — so the fold gets blocked long before the hamstrings are truly the limiting factor.

Sometimes “tight hamstrings” are actually hips that can’t internally rotate.

Burnt out ? Exhausted…..Take a day off.

If you’re self employed like me, time off can feel like an indulgence. I don’t take any time off. I work 7 days a week. But sometimes it’s a necessity.

I ended up so unwell on Friday. Not sick, just exhausted. Whole body pain, dizzy, headache — I was so worried I was going to faint teaching a class. Couldn’t even drive, I was so disoriented.
This had been building up for weeks.

Had yesterday off and my persistent back pain has miraculously gone. Actually had a genuine smile on my face today for the first time in ages!!

Next day off is end of the month, but I’m making changes to allow myself one day off a week.

One of my clients asked me if people are cutting back on classes and Personal Training because the financial situation is so bad.
In fact, it’s the opposite. I’ve never been so busy. I’m fully booked, working 7 days a week!
People are not cutting back on PT or yoga—and it’s not just the super wealthy. It’s normal, middle-class people.
People realise they can’t control what’s going on in the world. Everything can feel like an absolute s**t show, and the only thing you can control is your own health and wellbeing.
So while these people may be cutting back elsewhere, they’re investing more than ever in improving their health and wellbeing.

⚠️ Injury rates for different types of exercise ⚠️

On average, if an individual practices Yoga for 1000 hours the injury rate is:🧘‍♀️ 1.18 to 1.45 injuries per 1000 hours
💪 Bodybuilding comes in at 0.24🏋️And CrossFit 0.27
Why do you think this is?
In my opinion, it’s because there’s a lot of inexperienced Yoga teachers teaching very extreme yoga practices. 😧
In my experience teaching yoga for around 15 years , I also see a lot of injuries when people create extreme levels of flexibility without the strength to balance it out… but that tends to happen much later on down the line.

Ladies, if you are not strength training, particularly if you are 35 years of age or older, you are setting yourself up for a lot of injuries in later life!!
And those aches and pains that you feel in your body, despite stretching every day are not down to lack of flexibility they are down to lack of strength!

We need to do yoga AND strength training!

Can your hamstrings and shoulders handle this exercise? 🔥
If you’ve got exceptional shoulder mobility, have your hands shoulder width apart …if not you’ll have to go a fraction wider….

Very, very much looking forward to teaching the new Beginners Yoga class at House 🥰🗓 Wednesdays at 11am
So many people join an established yoga class and end up muddling along without ever really understanding the fundamentals of a physical practice. We copy the shapes everyone else is making… without knowing what each asana is actually trying to teach us.
I learned yoga in the traditional way.Day one: Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) and Ujjayi breath… and that’s it.You repeat them until the sequence lives in your body and you know it by heart. Then you slowly and incrementally add postures — at your own pace.
No pressure. No racing to keep up.
Everyone who comes to my classes knows I’m a stickler for detail and alignment — because details matter. Especially in yoga.
🧘‍♀️
Anything built on shaky foundations will never be strong and steady.Learned properly, yoga is adapted to you.Learned properly, it becomes sustainable — a practice you can carry with you for the rest of your life ✨

Ashtanga yoga is not the most efficient way to build flexibility or mobility when your main focus is strength training… and I’ll be the first to admit that.

But after trying everything — different mobility drills, stretching methods, recovery tools — this is the one practice that resets my entire system.

It calms my nervous system. It grounds me.It makes my mind and body feel fresh… .

— I don’t do it because it’s the most “optimal.”I do it because it makes me feel like me again.

And that matters more than perfect programming. 🧘‍♀️✨

The biggest game changer for improving my body composition and overall health and fitness has been strength training … and as we all know once we start strength training we start to track our protein like our life depends on it !!
This has always been a challenge for me as I was fully vegan until around two years ago and getting all of the essential amino acids is pretty much impossible.
I still don’t eat meat or eggs, and the only dairy I have is Greek yoghurt & cottage cheese.
Since adding those in… my hair has gone WILD.
In my 30s it was thinning, dry and brittle. Now in my late 40s it’s so thick and long I get asked if I’m i have hair extensions…
✨ I’m not — it’s all mine.
And I honestly don’t think it’s just the protein — it’s the B12 too.
So if you’re plant-based / veggie and struggling with:▪️ thinning▪️ shedding▪️ slow growth▪️ dry ends
Make sure you’re getting enough protein + B12.

Middle-age hair can still be thick, strong and glossy 💁‍♀️You just have to feed it.
