Beautifully the skin is an extention of our brain.

Skin and brain are actually connected via the nerves, through which they share information. What we feel affects our skin!

The skin is also exposed to the environment, think of UV rays, pollution, temperature change

These exposures cause a constant low level of inflammation on our skin which accumulate over time, and contributes to ageing

Thus calming the skin through stress-soothing ingredients is such a powerful approach to slow down the ageing process

One that works on prevention, not post fixing
One that works with the skin, boosting it's natural ability to regenerate

Save this post, and share it with someone who needs it

Damaged barrier = constantly stressed skin ⛔️

Maintaining a healthy skin barrier is crucial for our long term skin health and longevity. Think of the barrier as our protection layer 🙏

Often though, damaging habits are hidden in our skincare routine without us even being aware!

Let's uncover 4 damaging habits and discuss Giuly's tips - our founder and skincare formulator - for getting it right 💪✨️

Retinol vs Bakuchiol - all you need to know 👇💚

While retinol is best for dramatic wrinkles, acne and hyperpigmentation, provided your skin tolerates it, bakuchiol is best for sensitive skin, pregnancy, or daytime use, offering a gentler, plant-based alternative with zero sun sensitivity

Choosing between them depends on your specific skin needs, lifestyle, and timeline:

💚 When is Retinol Best?

You want fast, dramatic results: Retinol is the clinically proven gold-standard for cell turnover.

You have highly resilient skin: If your skin does not easily react to active ingredients, retinol will give you the most drammatic slow-ageing benefits

👉 We SUGGEST using it in the Autumn/Winter months:
3 months, then 1 month break, then 3 months again. Quit when the light gets stronger in Spring/Summer

Usage rules: PM only. Apply at night, as it breaks down in daylight and increases your skin's susceptibility to sun damage (making daily SPF 30+ mandatory)

💚 When is Bakuchiol Best?

You have very sensitive or reactive skin: Bakuchiol provides similar slow-aging and smoothing benefits to retinol but without the stinging, scaling, or redness

You are pregnant or breastfeeding

You want a daytime active: Unlike retinol, bakuchiol is not photosensitive and can be use ld in day light

Usage rules: AM and PM.

💚 Can you use both?

Yes! They actually make a fantastic team. Apply Bakuchiol in the morning (in out Velvet Leaf serum) for its antioxidant protection and daytime safety, and use Retinol at night ( in our Nature Garden night cream) to drive deep cellular repair.

Did you know the skin releases cortisol - our stress hormone - when stressed? Yep, just like our nervous system does 😶

Skin stress may be caused by psycological stress, or environmental stressors - like pollution, UV rays, irritating products

And what happens when cortisol is constantly high? The skin is constantly in a state of 'panic'

Thus things literally go out of balance, the skin experiences excess oil or dryiness, the skin barrier gets depleated, collagen does not rebuild. Premature fine lines appear.

Hence why the state of inflammation within our body and the stressors in our environment deeply affect our skin. Because skin health is a true reflection of our body's health and balance 💚
