We have had another bout of bad ezcema flare up with G and J. We tried everything: emollient creams for bathing, steroid creams, wet wraps, even going gluten free! But nothing seems to be working until we realised we were using a slightly different soap for washing clothes. Same soap just a different fragrance. We changed it back to the old, added an extra rinse cycle to the wash and voilΓ ! Ezcema back under control.
As I have always believed. Ezcema flare ups almost always has a cause. It might take a while but you will find it if you observe carefully.

I remember being asked by a friend if the vaccines had allergy warnings. The doesn't seem to be much information out there but this has just been published by Allergy UK. Hope it helps. # # #

With hot sunny weather comes eczema flare ups. Cool showers, lots of emollient or vascilin, bandage tubes (I find them easier then bandages) and keeping little nails as short as possible helps.
ILLNESSES AND ALLERGY SENSITIVITY
So 2 weeks ago little J started reacting to fructose more then usual. Somehow his tolerance level had suddenly reduced to low levels! His eczema had also flared up! We were left scratching our heads and not knowing what to do or what we had done wrong!
Then a few days later, he got sick, cough, cold and a high temperature. Turned out to be some form of an infection and had to have antibiotics.
Then I remembered what an allergic nurse told me sometime ago, ILLNESSES MAKE ALLERGIES WORSE.
Its was so true for J and now thinking back happens with all the kids.
So if it seems somehow your allergic kid is reacting to allergens more than normal and or their eczema has flared up with no apparent reason look out for illnesses. That might be the cause and not something you have done wrong. They should be back to their normal selves soon as they get better (whatever normal is π)

Following on from my earlier posts regarding allergy free food banks. I have had discussions with Allergy UK, The Trussell Goup who run food banks and a local discount pop up shop here in Tamworth. The general concensus is its easier to use existing food banks for now and most food banks will meet all allergy needs as much as they can so if you do need help with allergy free food during these difficult times please ask your local food bank. If they dont have any in stock they will endeavour to source some for you as soon as possible.
Also a local pop-up shop in Tamworth have agreed to stock allergy free food. Its just Β£4 a shopping bag of what ever you want at the shop which will go a long way to help. Details in attached pictures.
Please contact me if you need any more info.

Fried rice made with leftover roast lamb, pancetta, sweetcorn, peas, bell pepper and spring onions. Due to his fructose intolerance little J can't eat the sweetcorn and spring onions. We dish his portion out before adding the sweetcorn and onions. This saves us from cooking a different meal for him. A time saving trick if you have multiple allergies in your household.

With the problem of parents struggling with feeding their kids this half term back in the news my thoughts are back on if there might be families with kids with allergies who will be struggling to feed their kids safe food. I think there is a need for an Allergy Free Food Bank. What do you think? Any ideas welcome π€π²
To all the lovely mums out there. You are not just a mum you are amazing! For mums with allegic kids I would add dietician, dermatologist and allergy specialist! Be kind to yourself. There will be good days and bad days. It does get better with time.

Autumn is my favourite season. Love the warm vibrant colours. Go out for a walk if you can before it all goes away and winter takes hold.

Our Little J can't eat any of these because of his fructose intolerance. We thought we were experts in allergies until he came along!!!Fructose intolerance is not well known about in the UK. Our GP and dietician certainly did not know about it. If eliminating all well known food allergens does not improve your symptoms of diarrhoea, bloating and stomach cramps might become worth considering fructose intolerance
