Let’s talk about hyper pigmentation

Causes: UV sun rays or any form of inflammation eg acne, trauma, burns

Inflammation triggers your melanocyte cells which release melanin and this causes pigmentation

Asian skins have bigger melanocytes which are more easily triggered to produce melanin, which is why we hyperpigment more easily

How does the sun cause pigmentation?

1. UV rays hit the skin and cause the release of free radicals which can trigger an melanocyte to release pigment

2. UV rays trigger inflammation. The release of inflammatory mediator cells will then further trigger a melanocyte

3. UV rays cause the release of enzymes in our body which damage the basement membrane and this causes deep seated dermal pigmentation which is very hard to get rid of because the dermis is deep in the skin.

The amount of time filler will last is very variable from 3-24 months depending on patient age, metabolism, and site of injection.

Younger patients have a quicker metabolism so will break down products quicker.

Thicker more viscous products break down slower, and these are usually injected deeper as they are used to replace our deeper layers such as our bone or deep fat.

Lip filler which is injected more superficially (and is therefore a less thick product) will break down faster because it also in a highly dynamic tissue that moves (when we speak / eat).

On average, we can give an idea of the average length of time fillers last based on where they are placed.
