Cervical cancer is very prevalent in the UK, with 1 in 142 women being diagnosed in their lifetime. However, a lot of cervical cancer cases are actually preventable.
The first step to preventing cervical cancer is to attend regular smear tests. These will check for abnormal cells in your cervix that could be or potentially be cancerous.
The next step is to understand the symptoms it can cause.
Symptoms of cervical cancer include:
• Vaginal bleeding after s*x
• Vaginal bleeding between periods
• Heavier or longer than usual periods
• Blood in your vaginal discharge
• Pelvic pain
• Pain during s*x
It's important to remember that these symptoms alone do not confirm cervical cancer, which is why you must undergo proper diagnostic testing with the help of medical professionals like Mr Thomas Ind.

CIN stands for cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia and it refers to abnormal changes of cervical cells. These changes are pre-cancerous and are often found after a colposcopy.
CIN doesn't cause any symptoms, so you won't know you have it unless you undergo a colposcopy or a smear test. This is why it's so important you attend your cervical screenings as the cells could develop into cancer – which could have been avoided.
Not all CIN needs treatment, but you will be monitored if it's discovered to ensure it either goes away on its own or can be removed if necessary. The good news is that 95% of women are cured after just one treatment. 🌟

Colposcopies are a useful diagnostic tool that help identify cancer cells or cells that could turn into cancer in your cervix. They can also check for non-cancerous growths (polyps).🔬
After your colposcopy, you might be wondering what treatments can be performed if any cancerous cells are found.
Thomas Ind offers four different types of treatment:
• Lletz surgery – is the method most frequently used to treat pre-cancerous cells. It's minimally invasive and is performed by using a heated device called a diathermy to remove the abnormal cells.
• Cone biopsy – the selective removal of a cone of tissue from your cervix.
• Cold coagulation – A heated device is applied to the cervix and burns away the abnormal cells.
• Cryotherapy – this is the freezing and destroying of abnormal cervical cells.
If you have had a colposcopy, get in touch and our supportive team will help arrange the right treatment for you. https://bit.ly/3Rkebjc

Demystifying abnormal smear test results with Thomas Ind.💡
If you've received an abnormal smear test result, you might be worried and unsure what it means. An abnormal result does not always signal a serious gynaecological issue such as cancer.
Usually, abnormalities turn out to be harmless, but that doesn't mean you can ignore your results either.
On average, 1 in 12 smear tests show as abnormal, but many of these are due to small changes in your cervical cells (dyskaryosis). These changes are normally temporary and don't require treatment or turn into cancer. Monitoring may be necessary to make sure the cells return to normal.
Having regular screenings is key for early cancer detection so don't let the fear of abnormal results scare you off. 🔑

If you've heard about laparoscopic surgery and are unsure what it is, let us shed some light on it for you.💡
Laparoscopic surgery is a revolutionary surgical technique that provides enhanced results and faster recovery. 🚀It's also minimally invasive as it requires much smaller incisions.
The incisions are made in your abdomen and pelvis and a laparoscope (a tube with a camera on the end) is inserted into one of them. The surgical instruments inserted into the other incisions can then be guided using the relayed images from the laparoscope.
Laparoscopic surgery can be used to diagnose gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis and it can be used to treat conditions such as ovarian cysts.

What causes pelvic pain?🤔
Pelvic pain can often be misconstrued as abdominal or backache. This is because it's not limited to a small area and can affect wider parts of your body. Essentially, pelvic pain is discomfort felt from below your belly button to above your legs – which is quite a lot of area to feel pain in.
Pelvic pain can be caused by many different factors, most of which are associated with your gynaecological health.
Some common causes of pelvic pain are:
• Endometriosis
• Uterine fibroids
• Sexually transmitted infections
• Pelvic inflammatory disease
• Ovarian cysts
With the support of Mr Thomas Ind, an expert in gynaecology, we can identify, treat and manage the cause of your pain. Our wide range of treatment plans are tailored to meet your specific needs so you can regain control of your health.💪
