We ignore too many “small” things in our bodies… and that’s the problem.

That constant tiredness you keep brushing off
That unexplained weight loss
That lump you felt but didn’t check
That persistent pain that comes and goes
That unusual bleeding or discharge

You say, “It’s nothing… I’ll be fine.”

But what if it’s not?

Many serious illnesses, including cancer, don’t just appear overnight. They start with small signs that we often ignore because we are busy, scared, or simply unaware.

Please pay attention to your body.
Go for regular check-ups.
Speak up when something doesn’t feel right.

Early detection can save your life or someone you love.

Your health is not something to assume, it is something to take seriously.

One thing many people don’t pay attention to when it comes to health is social interaction.

Being healthy is not only about food or exercise.

Talking to people.
Laughing with others.
Feeling connected.

These things play a big role in how long and how well a person lives.

Taking time out of your day or your weekend to check on friends matters.

Calling people who make you laugh.
Talking, sharing stories, joking, and just being present.

This is not a luxury.

It is part of long-term health.

So while you plan your meals and routines, also plan connection.

Do it often.

As often as you can.

Health is not meant to be done alone.

However this month meets you - broke, busy, single, hopeful, tired, or still figuring things out

I hope it treats you well.

Today makes it one month since I got to the UK, and honestly, it’s been worth it.

I’m excited I made the decision to japa. So here are a few things I’ve learnt so far.

First of all, big boy or big girl status does not cross borders. In the UK, everybody is equal. Systems matter more than titles, and equal opportunity is taken seriously.

This country will teach you patience in all areas of life. If you are impatient, UK will train you.

Reading is very important here. You must read details, read between the lines, and follow instructions step by step. Guessing will stress you and most likely won’t work.

There are no shortcuts. Everything is systemized and everyone follows the same process.

Life here feels secure, functional, and gives hope for the future.

Children’s education is free until university level, which still amazes me.

Time consciousness is very important. You plan all your movements, going and returning. You don’t just wake up and enter the road. Buses, trains, and trams run on specific schedules. You must check the time in advance and wait at the bus stop or station.

Also, please keep your “good morning sir/ma.” Nobody really cares. Just say “Are you okay?”

Life can be tough if you don’t have someone guiding you at first. There are many things someone has to tell/show you.
At some point, you might ask yourself, “Wetin even carry me come UK?” Almost every international student I’ve spoken to has experienced this moment.

Winter may make you want to return home 😆

Intelligence is respected here, and school no be scam here.

Life is not as hard as people make it seem, but please come with enough funds.

This place will also teach you how to talk calmly.

Lastly, there will be days you imagine packing your load, booking a flight, and returning home.
My brother or sister, take a deep breath, rest a little, wake up, and continue. You are not the only one experiencing it. I’m telling you this in advance 😄

This part is from my personal experience, especially this week. I got really angry with myself because I realized I had spent so much money, mostly because I wasn’t informed. For example, I paid £13 (about ₦26k) for just four passport photographs. Something I could have done in Nigeria for ₦2k and come with. There are other expenses too, but I won’t go into them.

When I was feeling bad about the money I had spent, I spoke with other migrants. Do you know I ended up saying “sorry” to them after hearing their stories? That’s when I realized how powerful information is. But at the same time, too much information can be toxic. I know someone who made wrong decisions simply because she was over-informed.

One big mistake I see among people planning to travel abroad 👇🏽

They believe:
“I’ll figure things out when I arrive.”

Reality:
Most people who succeed abroad planned before they left.

They already:
• Understood the system
• Knew what jobs were realistic
• Prepared documents early
• Had a backup plan

Traveling without clarity increases:
❌ Stress
❌ Wrong job choices
❌ Exploitation
❌ Financial pressure
Clarity is a form of protection.

Before thinking of travel, ask:
“What am I realistically qualified to do now not what I wish?”
