(A Reflection on the Parable of the Ten Virgins – Matthew 25:1-13)

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” – Matthew 25:13

THE PARABLE OF THE TEN VIRGINS

Jesus told a story about ten virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, and five were foolish. The wise virgins took extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish ones brought no extra oil.

At midnight, a cry was heard: “The bridegroom is coming! Go out to meet him!” The virgins arose to trim their lamps, but the foolish ones realized they had no oil left. They begged the wise virgins for oil, but there wasn’t enough to share. While they went to buy more, the bridegroom arrived, and the door was shut. The foolish virgins came later, knocking, but the bridegroom said, “I do not know you.”

THE MEANING OF THE PARABLE

This parable is a warning from Jesus about being spiritually prepared for His return. The bridegroom represents Jesus, and the virgins represent believers. The oil symbolizes our relationship with God—our faith, obedience, and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The wise virgins were ready because they had enough oil, while the foolish ones were careless and unprepared. In the same way, many people are living without truly preparing for eternity.

ARE YOU READY FOR CHRIST’S RETURN?

Are you filled with the Holy Spirit, walking in obedience and holiness?It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.John 6:63

Is your heart prepared, or are you distracted by the things of this world?Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?”1Corinth 6:9

There will be no time to borrow oil when the trumpet sounds. Each person must have their own personal faith in Jesus.

HOW TO BE READY:

1. Repent and Accept Jesus – Believe in Him as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9).

2. Be Filled with the Holy Spirit – Walk in daily fellowship with God (Ephesians 5:18).

3. Stay Watchful and Prayerful – Live in readiness for His return (Luke 21:36).

4. Keep Your Lamp Burning – Let your faith and love for God remain strong (Matthew 5:16).

Do not be like the foolish virgins who were locked out. Jesus is calling you today! Will you be ready when He comes?

PRAYER OF SALVATION

If you have not given your life to Jesus, pray this prayer sincerely:
"Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I surrender my life to You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to live for You. Thank You for saving me. Amen."
