About Wilma Ciokon Donnelly
Wilma Ciokon Donnelly is part of the first batch of graduates of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Government (ASoG) executive training program on Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship (LSE-12). Wilma has more than 17 years’ experience in the health and beauty industry, having graduated from the renowned Frederique Beauty Institute in Hong Kong in 1996. Worked at various 5-Star Hotels in Hong Kong such as Kowloon Shang-rila, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, Grand Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, Sportathlon Gym, Pure Spa, New York Fitness, etc.
For the past six years she has managed her own business enterprise, WD's Secret Oasis Spa, at one of Asia’s most exclusive private premiere sporting establishment, Hong Kong Football Club. Her latest initiative sees her spearheading the launch of Kalusugan@WellnesSpa, an entrepreneurial venture aiming to both benefit and empower Hong Kong’s large overseas worker community. Originally from Bacolod, Philippines, Wilma is a mother of three and in her spare time enjoys netball, gym classes and teaching salsa dancing.
Why correct posture during household chores is important
Do you hunch over when vacuuming the carpet? If yes – and no one is blaming you, there is a natural inclination to bend your back while doing this work – then in all likelihood you will end up suffering back pain. The correct way is to bend the knee and keep the back straight. This is just one of many examples of how you can maintain a pain-free body, and do your housework more effectively, by adopting the correct posture for domestic chores.
There are some simple steps you can take to avoid physical problems brought on by housework. First, ensure you stretch before starting work – your neck, back, shoulders, arms, hips and legs should all be activated so that you are relaxed and comfortable. Second, take short breaks during housework, even if it is only for a few seconds, to do more stretches and improve blood circulation. Third, seek to do regular exercise, whether it is running, gym class, playing a sport or even simple walking. And fourth, regular body massages will stimulate circulation, oxygenation and disposal of toxins, while body scrub treatments are also good for releasing dead skin and improving oxygenation and circulation.
About Kalusugan@WellnesSpa
The Kalusugan@WellnesSpa will be rename to SPA+KALUSUGAN, shorter version and easy to remember, is an empowerment initiative for overseas workers in Hong Kong, launched under the Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Training Program which has been developed under the guidance of the Ateneo School of Government in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General, POLO-DOLE and OWWA in Hong Kong SAR. Together with A-Team mates, Ladyline Dacusin and Jed dela Cruz.
SPA+KALUSUGAN, which has been set up in a purpose-built facility at the 8th years old Resurrection Power Christian Church building located 2 minutes walk at the Central MTR Station Exit C, 3/F, Po Wah Building, 12-13 Li Yuen Street East, Central. Filipinos called and known as First Alley Alley. Has two prime objectives: first, to train overseas workers in all aspects of spa therapy and management, thus giving them a fresh set of skills that will provide them with a new and sustainable career when they return to their native country; second, to provide overseas workers with a place where they can enjoy affordable spa treatments in a relaxing environment away from their often demanding jobs.
The SPA+KALUSUGAN training programme know as ISPAT-HK means Intensive SPA Training - Hong Kong is divided into weekly sessions with students learning massage, facials, hair removal procedures, spa protocols and operation, product options and ranges, business acumen, administrative requirements and a range of other skills designed to give them a new career in the health and beauty industry. The sessions are led by qualified instructors and are held in a fully supportive and educational environment. Now we are seeking accreditation from TESDA in the Philippines.
In the past, overseas workers have never had access to spa facilities in Hong Kong simply because these are expensive and are traditionally the preserve of “elite” local residents and the expatriate community. Kalusugan has changed this, offering overseas workers treatments at a realistic cost in a friendly and welcoming environment with high standards of hygiene, service and décor.
After Tax, Forty per cent (40%) of the SPA+KALUSUGAN's annual profit income will be donated to Wilma Donnelly's Children's Foundation Charity Fund to be used in support for various Charity projects such as Wimler Foundation, Payatas Street Kids, Share Blessings to unfortunate people in the Philippines and Resurrection Power Christian Churches around the Globe and more others.
SPA+Kalusugan is by overseas workers, for overseas workers, for the benefit of all. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mahal na Mahal Kita and kayong lahat!
