There are numerous design options for refillable compacts. The standard option has been the pinhole technique. There is a tiny hole on the rear of the compact that allows you to take out the compact and replace it with a new refill or an entirely different shade.
The new refilling compact incorporates a screw-on, magnetic, or click-on mechanism to remove or insert the formulation-filled tray.
