HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As the new year is upon us, it's time to fulfill those new year's resolutions. But if you've been bummed out the past couple of days and you can't possibly think of ways to improve your lifestyle, why don't you scroll down and view a couple of the articles on this page *says with a smirk*.
But seriously, there is no greater investment, than the one you can make in yourself.
So start eating right, exercise frequently, and make sure you stimulate your brain from time to time.
In fact, I've recently explored this app called "Elevate" and it includes fun little games that apparently improve memory, brevity, writing proficiency, and focus among others. I can't vouch for the results, but you should check it out. It's available for android and iOS.

CHECK OUT THIS SHORT FILM:
The timing of this short film that I watched just now pretty much sums up the attitude of Indian men, and how we SHOULD be thinking. Quite coincidental considering the article I wrote below. I think the team behind this short film did an absolutely wonderful job. Check out the link:

HYDERABAD ENGINEERING STUDENT GANG-RAPED AND BLACKMAILED
That's the first headline I saw this morning.
Disappointment is what I felt. A 22-year-old student was with her boyfriend in a private area when 2 guys felt the need to record whatever intimate moments they were sharing. Then they confronted the couple, beat the boyfriend and r***d the girl. They then threatened to release the videos/pictures if she went to the authorities.
Stories like this aren't new. And the crux of the problem can be summed up by a moving poster that I saw recently from The Logical Indian. Reports of r**e and sexual abuse will always be pouring in as long as our views (Indian men) don't change. I think the major problem is, there are a lot of guys out there that think about it. Only a few have the courage (aka stupidity) to actually do it. It's their natural mindset to treat girls as sexual objects. And it makes me wonder, why "Nirbhaya's" case created headline news for weeks/months yet countless other stories of r**e related death's land in the middle of the newspaper, if reported at all.
Anyway, check out their page and cause. They are doing great work.
THANK YOU

COMPULSIVE BUYING DISORDER...WHAT A JOKE
A CONFESSION...
That's probably what you're thinking. But this is something that's on the trend for those in their early 20's. Early financial independence occurring at a time when most of us are still trying to find our identity can be dangerous. I would know because I probably have fallen victim to this. I find myself trying to define my identity through new material possessions. Now I don't know if I would characterize myself as having a disorder (denial is of course the first reaction), but I've definitely wasted away countless hours sitting on the computer surfing the hottest deals on consumer goods I absolutely don't need.
I think I fall under a peripheral category of compulsive buying disorder...considering I rarely purchase anything. Honestly, this is probably worse because I have nothing to show for the time spent glaring at the computer screen. I find myself pondering the importance of new steak knives (which I have never used in my 23 years of existence) or another set of headphones (although I have three). I make justifications for the potential purchase. Occasionally I give into the temptation, clicking the 'oh so dangerous' "checkout" button only to cancel the orders in the last minute before they ship.
I think what scares me the most though, is that this compulsion to buy is only limited by the embarrassing lack of financial resources. What happens when I start earning more? Sure, I invest. I allocate funds appropriately. Maybe I will never fall prey to debt, maybe I will never have to worry about money. But that's not the problem. I'm letting myself be defined by material possessions. I'm letting that dollar/rupee bill control my life.
So am I really financially independent?
DO ANY OF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A SIMILAR SITUATION? WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO?

MOB JUSTICE? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
This has been making waves on social media, and I'd be very surprised if you haven't already heard about it. But if you are one of the few who has just emerged from his/her cave and managed to get cellphone reception, here's a recap:
A man reportedly attempted to r**e a teenage girl in the city of Ganganagar, India. Local passerby's found him restraining this girl on a wall in an alleyway and dragged him out. A few became many, and without fail, as in any questionable situation in Indian streets, our typical mob mentality took over. This mob apparently took the alleged ra**st to a local butcher's shop where they proceeded to beat him with sticks for an hour. And to top it off...or "chop" it off, they hacked off his p***s with a meat cleaver.
Excessive much?
Personally I feel criminal activity should be left to law enforcement. Do I feel enraged that any human could feel like they can take advantage of another against their free will? Yes. But we have given the rights to uphold justice to our judicial system, and if we don't have structure then we're no different from animals right? In one angle, what happened in Ganganagar is quite scary. It's scary that the primal urges of an individual took over and were channelized on a girl. It is ALSO scary that the primal urges of the many (aka mob) took over their senses and led to a very non sterile penectomy.
Anyway, I'm interested to read your thoughts...

LOOKS LIKE OUR PARENTS HAD IT RIGHT ALL ALONG
As Russell Peters famously coined, "Somebody gonna get-a-hurt real bad!"
Well it looks like our parents had the right idea spanking us silly as kids because now, people are paying to get beaten.
A Russian doctor has come up with a crazy bizarre treatment to help those with all types of addictions and depression- quite literally beating them with a stick.
Patients with a variety of problems such as drug addictions, psychological dependencies, and depression can see a thera**st and receive up to 60 lashes on the buttocks with a cane.
Russians are paying good money too: almost Rs. 5000 per session. The standard treatment is 2 beating sessions a week for three months, with follow up visits every month for a year. Willow branches are used as they are flexible and won't cause bleeding.
The theory behind this therapy is that corporal punishment 'counteracts a lack of enthusiasm for life which is often behind addictions, suicidal tendencies and psychosomatic disorders.'
And it seems to be working too, they have treated more than a 1000 patients using this therapy.
Just something to think about...
Thank You

THE STORY OF EXTREME EMOTIONS PART 1
By: Dr. Varun Pulugundla
I would like you to ask yourself some questions before getting started:
Do I act impulsively?
Am I emotionally liable?
Do I have:
Excessive sensitiveness to setbacks?
A tendency to misinterpret friendly acts by others as disrespect or insult?
A tendency to bear grudges?
Intense and Unstable relationships?
Feelings of emptiness or loneliness (most of the time)?
Take a moment to reflect…
Do you find anything common among Erratic, Skeptical, Contemptuous and Apathetic behaviours?
Let’s keep this mind and start the main story.
This is the tale of one entity that decides almost everything in our life: PERSONALITY. The well introduced lead of our story is defined by the pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviour that makes each of us what we are. These patterns are developed very early and most of them are complete by late teens or early 20s. I agree: we don’t always think, feel and behave in exactly the same way and it depends on the situation we are in, the people with us, and many other circumstances. But mostly we tend to behave in fairly predictable ways or patterns developed early in life. These formed traits or patterns form our unique ‘Personality Fingerprint’. This rigid personality struggles to reform and remodel as we continue our travel through different experiences and circumstances.
This normality can deviate either at development or remodelling of traits leading to limited range of thoughts, feelings and behaviour which are responsible for extreme emotions usually known as Personality Disorders. Now it’s clear that all the extremities mentioned in the beginning come under the same umbrella. The beliefs and attitudes of those inflicted with said personality disorders are people that are usually unshakable and different, making it difficult for other people to cope with them. These unshakable beliefs and attitudes lead to extreme emotions and may make the person a social outcast.
Can we find a solution for this or more accurately, can we remodel/restructure this?
The answer is YES. The main problem in personality abnormality is a lack of insight into one’s own problem. So it’s time to revisit those questions and analyse oneself.
If your response is YES, to any of the questions, you have to accept the fact that your personality software is malicious because of coding errors. It’s time to change, remodel and restructure your stubborn attitudes, feelings and behaviour. It is possible by identifying a situation or action that is responsible for extreme emotions and trying to control regulate and pacify it. Try to accept others and try to accept a little change in your formed formidable thoughts day by day. Effective self-psychotherapy leads to practical and potent results.
In the next part, I will delve deeper into effective remodelling/restructuring of said personality disorders. I strongly believe the most important step is realising and accepting that there are parts of your personality that can strengthen and improve.
THANK YOU

DEATH WISH ANYBODY?
Now for a page to be dedicated to your health and well-being, I think it's important to discuss any issues that could lead to your eminent demise...
Now, I've heard this lingo in gangster movies...but from someone who is the "Head of our State?" Now correct my Telugu if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the translation goes as follows:
"If anybody tries to denigrate or hurt the self-respect of Telangana, Telangana Assembly, Telangana culture... we will break their necks. Be careful. Beware or else we will bury you 10km (under the earth). We will not allow media to play games. If you do more, you will face more. I am telling you as the chief minister; if you want to stay and live here, salute us and stay. Respect our Telangana people and stay here."
Excuse me?
I don't associate myself with any one particular culture in India, because I'm a mixed basket. I've grown up in many places and I've absorbed many things. But the more predominant part of me is definitely Indian. And no matter where I might currently be, Hyderabad is my home!
I have my own opinions about the new government in Hyderabad and that's perfectly ok. There are some things I like and some things I don't.
There are a lot of things I don't like about the media in Hyderabad...honestly, most of it is trash. But the people working there, the journalists there, the crew and cast are all entitled to their own opinion. They are all Indians as well.
And for a leader to threaten to kill a constituent HE IS MEANT TO SERVE AND PROTECT, in my opinion, is no leader at all...
A politician is a public servant. And in a democracy the people elect the politicians. NEVER EVER MISTAKE THAT FOR BEING OMNIPOTENT.
I don't care if what was said was out of context. Such words of violence should never be uttered in any context. Ugh, such threats (even if empty) should be discouraged and is a mark of shame.
That is my two cents.
THANK YOU

TRIPLE H # 2
It's been a while, but here's a Hyderabad Health Hazard warning for you:
Here's something shocking:
Did you know that there are only 4 FOOD INSPECTORS for the 20,000+ eateries in Hyderabad? FOUR
That's it. That's who we have validating the food safety standards in our eateries. Can you imagine how difficult it is to cover the whole city???
The job of the food inspector is to examine/scrutinize the food preparation process and to take samples and get them tested in a lab. The GHMC Lab isn't even properly equipped to tackle this load.
GHMC, you can do better.
Talk about a "TRIPLE H Threat"

DRINK RESPONSIBLY
PubMed can be an interesting escape from the work day. It can also be the source of some startling information. For those of you that have never heard of PubMed, it's a free search engine of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics.
Did you know that in a study conducted in 119 universities in the USA, 80% of the college students regularly consumed alcohol (about a couple of drinks a week)? And half of those students binge drink on those occasions (more than 4 drinks in a 2 hour period). This has led to an steep increase in alcohol related injuries.
The reason why this interests me, is because intermediate/college students in India have taken to this fad by storm. And what concerns me is the lack of regulation that prevails here in the States. Youngsters can get by without being carded. Law enforcement can be managed. And anyone can buy alcohol in wine shops.
And to make matters worse, the sale of alcohol has never been more accessible now that the tenders for alcohol licenses have become easy to acquire in the Telangana region. Wine shops have been popping up everywhere.
And sadly, I fear things are going to become worse in Hyderabad. My focus isn't drunk driving, I know recently the situation has become quite stringent. My concern is underage drinking. Though 18-year-olds are considered legal adults, their brains are still stuck in adolescence. The part of the brain that's in charge with seeking rewards and stimulation is still dominant and the part that could prevent impulsive behavior is still immature. They're more likely to take risks, and impairing their judgement is just a recipe for disaster.
Here's another fact: girls that have had 4 or more drinks in a span of 2 hours are 19 times more likely to be sexually assaulted.
So be aware of your friends and family, everyone wants to have a good time, but no one wants to get hurt, physically or emotionally.
I think a lot can be done to reduce the availability of alcohol to underage drinkers.
DRINK RESPONSIBLY
Here's one that we've all heard: "Friends don't let friends drive drunk."
Here's one I heard the other day: "Friends don't let friends get out of control."

ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE
In light of the social media phenomenon that has rampaged our Facebook walls the past couple of months, I thought this would be a good opportunity for all of those people who have done the challenge...but don't even know what ALS stands for.
AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS
It's a neuro-degenerative disease with a variety of causes characterized by muscle weakness due to the degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons.
People affected by ALS eventually lose the ability to initiate and control all voluntary movement.
Most people with ALS die from respiratory failure (the muscles initiating respiration fail), usually within 3-5 years from the onset of symptoms.
There is only one approved treatment: Riluzole that has been found to moderately improve survival rates. But it does not reverse the damage already done to the motor neurons.
All other treatments are simply to attempt to relieve symptoms.
Sure, things look bleak, but they can only get better through ALS research funding.
So even if you've been challenged and you complete it within 24 hours, still go to the ALS Association website and donate.
http://www.alsa.org/
I hope this has sparked your interest, there is plenty more to read out there...
THANK YOU
