🚩 RED FLAGS TO WATCH OUT IN MUA’s
(by a professional MUA itself)
As a professional makeup artist its essential for me to be transparent with my clients about what work I’ll be delivering, i would never make unrealistic promises that i cannot fulfil,I always ensures a clear communication about their expectations and my capabilities. 🫶🏻😇
However, like in any field, there can be a few instances where certain makeup artists may misrepresent themselves or their work. Here are some common lies or misleading practices some makeup artists might engage in..
1🚩 Exaggerating Skills or Expertise: Some makeup artists may claim to have experience with certain techniques or high-profile clients when, in fact, they do not. This can include misleading claims about working with celebrities or being trained by top industry professionals.
2🚩 by Using Filters or Heavy Editing in Photos: always go through their Instagram reels and photos to see if their post are heavily edited or not , sometimes To showcase their work some makeup artists might use filters or heavily edit photos to create the illusion of flawless makeup. This set unrealistic expectations for clients who might expect the same results in person, only to be disappointed when makeup doesn’t look as smooth and flawless you saw on their page.
3🚩 Promising Unrealistic Results: Some makeup artists may promise clients that makeup can completely hide natural skin textures like acne scars wrinkles or fine lines or change face shape dramatically. While makeup can enhance features it cannot alter natural skin textures or completely transform someone’s appearance.
4🚩 Selling Unrealistic Beauty Standards: By showcasing only fair-skinned, flawless models in their portfolios, some artists perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards. This not only limits their audience but also sends a harmful message to those with different skin tones or features.
5🚩 Overbooking or Rushing Clients: In some cases, makeup artists may overbook themselves to maximize profit, leading to rushed services or lack of attention to detail. This can result in unsatisfactory work, especially if the artist isn’t giving enough time to each client.
6🚩 Dismissing Clients Based on Appearance : Unfortunately, some makeup artists may refuse to work with clients based on their skin type, tone, or perceived “flaw” like acne or dark skin. This discriminatory behavior is not only unprofessional but can cause harm to clients, making them feel inferior or unworthy.
7🚩 Not Disclosing the Real Cost: Some artists may not be transparent about their pricing either offering a low price initially and adding hidden costs later or not clearly explaining the cost of additional services like travel /stay or extra products.
8🚩 Not Offering Proper demo for Brides:
Make sure to book a demo session before your bridal makeup,if you’re not fully satisfied with the portfolio of the artist (And YES the demo session is chargeable. Price depends on the kind of makeup and brands used)
Some artists skip or rush Demo sessions for brides, promising the day-of makeup will look even better. This often leads to disappointment and stress on the wedding day.
