This nail plate has been filed past safe anatomy. The dorsal layer is completely gone, and the intermediate layer is also gone or nearly gone. What you are seeing in that pink center is essentially the ventral layer over the nail bed, with so little keratin remaining that oxygen is reaching tissue it should never reach through an intact nail plate. That color is not healthy nail. It is vascular influence showing through because the nail plate has been erased.

At this point there is no meaningful protective barrier left. The nail has lost its structural integrity, and it has also lost its ability to protect the living tissue underneath. When you remove two of the three layers of the nail plate, you make it dramatically easier for the chemicals we use in nail services to reach flesh they were never designed to contact. That increases the risk of irritation, sensitization, and allergic reactions, even when products are otherwise used correctly.

This does not improve adhesion. It does not improve retention. It guarantees sensitivity, unpredictable wear, and long-term damage. If you can see this much pink, you didn’t prep better. You filed through the nail plate and exposed tissue that should never be exposed. This is not advanced technique. It is avoidable harm.
