🚨 MEDICATION SAFETY ALERT FOR NURSES 🚨
Before administering Lasix (Furosemide) there is one laboratory value you should never overlook:
⚠️ POTASSIUM (K⁺) ⚠️
Lasix is a powerful loop diuretic commonly used to treat:
✅ Heart Failure
✅ Hypertension
✅ Pulmonary Edema
✅ Fluid Overload
However, while it removes excess fluid, it also increases potassium loss through urine. If potassium levels become too low, patients may develop:
❌ Irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
❌ Muscle weakness and cramps
❌ Fatigue and dizziness
❌ Respiratory muscle weakness
❌ Cardiac arrest in severe cases
💡 Smart Nursing Practice:
✔ Always review potassium levels before administering Lasix.
✔ Monitor for signs and symptoms of hypokalemia.
✔ Follow prescribed potassium replacement protocols.
✔ Educate patients on the importance of follow-up laboratory monitoring.
Remember Patient safety begins with assessment—not administration.
📌 Save this post for future reference.
📌 Share with fellow nurses and nursing students.
📌 Follow All Kenya Nurses for more clinical pearls and medication safety tips.
💬 TRUE OR FALSE:It is safe to administer Lasix without checking potassium levels if the patient appears stable.

Brace yourselves for a tough time ahead.
Are we ready!
President Ruto: To strengthen frontline health services, 5000 nurses and midwives will be recruited and deployed across the country. A skilled health worker in the right place at the right time often represents the difference between life and death
What do you guys think about this passionate Speech, is he being too harsh on the nurses ??
We know that some medical conditions could be way advanced and therefore blaming the nurse for a loss of life beats the logic.
We feel Sorry for his family though😨😨
