Transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) is a promising technique to treat a wide range of neurological conditions including stroke. The pathological processes following stroke may provide an exemplary system to investigate how TDCS promotes neuronal plasticity and functional recovery. It’s what we call as rewiring the brain.

Several Stem Cell treatment protocols have been advocated in the treatment for post stroke rehabilitation. It ranges from the type of cell lineage, to route of administration, quantity of cells, frequency of administration and rehabilitation plans.

Stimulation of neuromotor control system at multiple levels manipulates the corresponding neuronal circuits and results in neuroplasticity changes of stroke survivors. This rewires the lesioned brain and advances functional improvement. This process is further augmented with Stem Cell therapy especially when administered early. Stem Cell therapy combined with rehabilitation with electrical stimulation has been proven to expedite the recovery process.

Though Mesenchymal stem cells from cord blood is easy to obtain, the best cell linage for stroke rehabilitation will be neural cells. It can be induced pluripotent cells, or programmed (by gene expression) MSC cells.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) offer the potential to replace lost tissue after nervous system injury. Thus, stem cells can promote host neural repair in part by secreting growth factors, and their regeneration-promoting activities can be modified by gene delivery.

Different types of stem cells come from different places in your body and have different functions. Scientists are exploring and manipulating tissue-specific stem cells in the lab to program the cells for specific uses. For example, the blood-forming (hematopoietic) stem cells found in bone marrow regenerate the cells in blood, while neural stem cells in the brain make brain cells. A hematopoietic stem cell won’t spontaneously make a brain cell and vice versa. Thus, it is unlikely that a single cell type can be used to treat a multitude of unrelated diseases involving different tissues or organs.

1. Currently, very few stem cell treatments have been proven safe and effective.
2. There is something to lose when you try an unproven treatment.
3. Different types of stem cells serve different purposes in the body.
4. The same stem cell treatment is unlikely to work for different diseases or conditions.
5. The science behind a disease should match the science behind the treatment.
6. Cells from your own body are not automatically safe when used in treatments.
7. Patient testimonials and other marketing provided by clinics may be misleading.
8. The process by which science becomes medicine is designed to minimize harm and maximize effectiveness.

INFORMATION YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A STEM CELL TREATMENT
1. Is the treatment routine for this specific disease or condition?
2. What are the alternative treatment options for my disease or condition?
3. What are the possible benefits I can expect?
4. What other medications or special care might I need?
5. How is this stem cell procedure done?
6. What is the source of the stem cells?
7. How are the stem cells identified, isolated and grown?
8. Are the cells differentiated into specialized cells before therapy?
9. How are the cells delivered to the right part of the body?
10. If the cells are not my own, how will my immune system be prevented from reacting to the transplanted cells?

Each and every day, scientists across the world conduct stem cell research that informs our understanding of the human body and how we approach medicine.
These are just a few of the ways stem cells are being used:
• To study normal human development leading to earlier detection, better diagnosis and more effective treatments for diseases and injury.
• In drug discovery, to test how drugs might affect different organs.
• For cell replacement on using use stem cells to generate tissue that, when transplanted, will take the place of tissue damaged by disease, aging or injury.
• For endogenous, or self, repair to stimulate self-repair, programming stem cells in the human body to generate healthy cells to heal damaged tissue from within or to prevent further damage.

Induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells are cells that have been engineered in the lab by converting tissue-specific cells, such as skin cells, into cells that behave like embryonic stem cells. IPS cells are critical tools to help scientists learn more about normal development and disease onset and progression, and they are also useful for developing and testing new drugs and therapies.
Tissue-specific stem cells (also referred to as somatic or adult stem cells) are more specialized than embryonic stem cells. Typically, these stem cells can generate different cell types for the specific tissue or organ in which they live. For example, blood-forming (or hematopoietic) stem cells in the bone marrow can give rise to red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Embryonic stem cells are obtained from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst that is formed three to five days after an egg cell is fertilized by a s***m. Embryonic stem cells are controversial, because they are collected from early-stage embryos. Embryonic stem cells are Pluripotent in nature, giving rise to all of the cell types that form the human body, but are not as versatile as totipotent cells.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cell found in bone marrow and fat, among other tissues. These cells tend to turn into bone, fat, muscle and cartilage cells. MSCs are also extracted from umbilical cord blood & jelly.
