In a quiet village on the outskirts of Enugu State, Nigeria, lived a small family of five in a crumbling one-room mud house.
Chinedu was once a strong farmer. His wife, Amaka, used to sell vegetables in the local market. Life was never perfect, but at least there was always something in the pot for their children — Ijeoma, Emeka, and little Somto.
But everything changed when Chinedu fell sick.
Weeks turned into months, and he could no longer go to the farm. Amaka’s small vegetable business collapsed because she had to stay home and take care of him. The little savings they had vanished into hospital bills that brought no healing.
Now, hunger had become their daily companion.
Every evening, the three children gathered around an empty pot placed on three stones outside their house. Somto would always ask the same question in her weak, trembling voice:
"Mama, what are we cooking today?"
Amaka would force a smile and reply softly,
"Food is coming, my child."
But she knew… there was nothing coming.
That night, the rain fell heavily through the leaking roof. The children slept on empty stomachs, their tiny bodies curled together for warmth. Emeka cried silently until sleep finally took over. Ijeoma pretended to be asleep so her mother wouldn’t see the tears rolling down her face.
Amaka sat in the darkness, staring at the empty pot.
Not because she wanted to cook…
But because it was the only thing that gave the children hope.
The next morning, Somto fainted from hunger.
Amaka ran outside screaming for help, but poverty had visited almost every home in the village — no one had anything to give.
This family does not need luxury.
They are not asking for riches.
They only pray for food… for medicine… for a chance to live.
Today, there are many families like Chinedu’s across Nigeria who sleep hungry, not by choice but by circumstance.
Your little help can put food in an empty pot. Your kindness can bring hope where there is none.
Together, we can remind them that they are not forgotten.

This child is not asking for luxury.
Just food. Safety. A chance to grow.
Silence keeps this reality alive.
Action changes it.
