BALANCING YOUR JOB AND CARE FOR YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD FOR WORKING MOTHERS.

We all know how the economy is no longer friendly to almost everybody. Inflation rate is increasing everyday, living standards dropping by the hour. Jams are living the dining table, salad has been skipped from meals. Only the very necessary items are bought in the house. The goal is to eat not the quality of what you are eating for most people now.

You can see that it's no good time to quit your job. So how do Special needs parents balance their responsibility to their child and demands from workplace.
Here are a few tips I put together:
1. ASK FOR TIME FLEXIBILITY: I remember I considered resigning my job when my son suddenly turned Special Needs but on the other hand I remembered we needed the money at least to be able to meet up with drugs and therapies. I decided to ask for work time flexibility. Although in Nigeria, it's hard to expressly get that approval but my boss understood I have a situation at home and whenever I asked for sometime off, he obliged me. God bless him. So you can just ask first before thinking of resigning.

2. DO NOT ABANDON YOUR LIFE STRUCTURE,FIT THE SITUATION INTO YOUR EXISTING LIFE STRUCTURE.
When we are faced with some situations in life such as this, we are tempted to get lost in the face of the challenges. In a bid to take care of your special needs child, it is very possible for you especially mother's to loose yourself in the process. You stop doing things that matter to you, things that make you happy, we easily sacrifice who we are to the situation at hand and at the long run, we easily get tired of life or succumb to depression or hidden sad life. Now to avoid this, instead of loosing yourself in the process, fit this situation into your existing way of life. You can just reduce or adjust the timing of certain things or even the frequency of such activities but DO NOT LOOSE YOURSELF. CONTINUE TO BE YOU, JUST ADJUST TO THE PRESENT SITUATION.

3. DELEGATE SOME ACTIVITIES: Everybody needs a helping hand at some point in our lives. Special Needs parents are not left out. As at the time my son had Meningitis, I didn't have a help. Thank God my brother was around to handle some things for me. In handling all the routines that come with having Special Needs child and also maintaining your work front, please do not try to do it all by yourself. You will break down easily. If you can afford it, employ someone to handle some things for you, if not ask your relatives to help out. Handle the most important activities yourself and delegate the other ones like house chores to another so you can coordinate and concentrate on your child's therapies and work. Just supervise every other thing. Do not forget, you are a human being and you too need CARE.

4. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF AND DO NOT FORGET YOUR HUSBAND AND OTHER KIDS IN THE PROCESS. This has caused so many problems in homes that have Special Needs child. Suddenly, you feel the child needs more love, care and attention more than others. You neglect so many of your duties and responsibilities to your husband to other kids. And the thing is to you, you feel they should understand but life is not like that.
Take care of yourself, pamper yourself because you need the energy to carry on. Maintain your family get together routines, include your Special Needs Child in all the family outings as far as it's safe for him/her.
Confess positively, always know that there is a solution somewhere to make the situation better. Just pray for God to direct you and He will answer you just like He did for us.

See you some other time.

LIMITING YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD

❤️Like already been said. Your child is special needs because he/she cannot do one or two things a normal growing child can do due to some factors.
💙Most times in taking care of our special needs child, we forget that the child also has so many abilities but due to our protective nature or fear of the unknown we stop or limit the child from expressing the abilities God has blessed him/her with. Somehow, we allow the child's disability to overshadow his/her ability.

💚Having at one time taken care of my son when he suddenly became special needs after a Meningitis attack. I remember how I prefer to carry him around in my arms because I allowed the fact that he can no longer use his legs then overtake my subconscious, so even when he will try to crawl , I couldn't behold it, crawling at age 5? All of a sudden? It was not a funny feeling. I carried him around first because I didn't want him to maybe wound himself, fear of the unknown and being over protective of him.

💙Remembering those few weeks brings tears to my eyes. But I thank God they are tears of joy and appreciation to God Almighty for His direction and saving Grace. Seeing the same son asking us to register him in a football academy gives me great joy.

❤️What am I saying? As hard as it is to see your once vibrant child become another version of himself/herself. Learn to look more at their abilities more than their disabilities.

💚To every superparent still on this journey, may God grant you your heart desires which is to see your child get better and live a normal life just like mine did. And may He send you direction just like He did for us.

Have a great day!
Amarachi 💚💚❤️

Who is A Special Needs Child?

A special needs child is a child who cannot do what every other child can do or develop like every other normal child due to genetic, environmental, physiological, mental or psychological factors.
Examples are children with autism, asperger syndrome, deafness, blindness, down syndrome, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, after effects of meningitis etc.

In 2017, my son had Meningitis and within 3 weeks he lost speech, mobility and posture. Managing him for the short period he was special needs thought me so many lessons and I've drawn these tips out of personal experience. I hope it speaks to you.

Tips on Taking Care of a Special Needs Child
1. Be Observant: Being observant around your Special Needs Child is very important. You should know what they can and cannot do for themselves. This will help you identify any improvement or retardation in your child early enough.

2. Educate Yourself: Always seek for more information about your child's condition so you can know what to expect and what is strange. Do your research on possible ways to improve your child's condition, seek to know more about his/her therapies, routine drugs, do's and don'ts etc.

3. Be Interactive: Always interact with your child. It does not matter if they are not responding. Just talk with them, smile at them, laugh while speaking to them, confess positively in their presence, tell them how great they are. Always keep a positive mindset and never hope for the worst.

4. Be Consistent with your Routines: Help your child to improve in their ability to coordinate by staying consistent with your drug, food and therapy routines.

5. Always Seek Expert Advise: Most times when you have such issues, many people tend to have solution for you. When my son had Meningitis in 2017, and was convulsing at short intervals, we heard so many advises. Even while still at the hospital, some people brought some leaves, some say I should give him my urine. While I do not doubt the efficacy of these suggestions. It's good you be careful not to practice what just everybody tells you. Research on it before acting.

6. Depend Mainly on Energy Medicine: By experience, I have come to realize that energy or quantum medicine works more than we think and know. Seek out energy medicine products and include them in your child's therapy. This contributed 90% to my child's complete recovery.

See you tomorrow for another exciting episode.

Ready for a health tip that will blow your mind? Here it is;

'' Do you know that the state of your health depends on how much antioxidants and free radicals present in your body system?''

The more there are antioxidants in your body system, the more healthier you are while the more free radicals your body has,the less healthier you are.

Do you have a question about this?

I will love to share my knowledge with you. So just ask me...
