Every morning when I open my shop, the first thing that greets me is not “good morning”… it is mama Bose’s Egusi aroma.

The Aroma hits so hard and makes me wonder her secret ingredients.

Her restaurant is the closest to my shop, amongst the hundreds of food outlets in that environment.

and sometimes when that aroma hits me too hard I’ll peep inside to see what is happening. 🤗

Only to site her daughter Bose standing in her corner, serving plates and collecting money like POS machine.

One day, Mama Bose herself walked into my shop for the first time.
She had an event and wanted a dress.
Told me the style, we agreed on a price,
she dropped her fabric,
collected my account number…

My people,

next thing…

silence,

No alert,
No cash,
No call.
Not even “pending transaction.”

Three days later, she called and said,
“Awana, abeg I wan collect my material.”

I asked why.

She said,
“Aunty, you too expensive. My daughter Bose know person wey go sew am cheaper.”

Did I argue?
For what?
Is it by force to understand my value?

Let me tell you the truth I’ve learnt in almost two years of running my business:

1.Not every customer will recognise your worth… and that is perfectly fine.

2.Some people want champagne results on pure water budget.
Let them go in peace.

The funny part?

From her shop she has seen me package deliveries, sample outfits, showcase fine designs…
She’ll even shout,

“Awana this one fine o!”
And I’ll say,
“Thank you ma.”

But when it was her own turn to sew “fine dress”…
Mama carried her fabric and ran. 🏃‍♀️💨

No wahala.
We move.

And me too, even if hunger is Beating me …

I don’t think I’ll buy food from her.

Expensive or not aura must match aura. 🤗
