One finger of plantain weighing about 100 g contains only about 0.6–0.8 mg of iron.

In pregnancy, a woman needs about 27–30 mg of iron daily. That means you would need to eat dozens of fingers of plantain to get all your iron from plantain alone!

Yes, plantain contains iron, but only a small amount.

And iron does not make your baby “strong” like a WWE champion. 😄 Iron helps your body make healthy blood for you and your baby.

So eat your plantain in peace—it is a healthy food. Just know that it is mainly a carbohydrate food and should not be your main source of iron.

For iron, think more about foods like liver, meat, fish, beans, and other iron-rich foods.
