In response, it initiates a series of adaptive mechanisms to conserve energy and resources, ultimately aiming to ensure your survival until you can access more food.💥
One of the primary ways your body conserves energy is by slowing down metabolic processes. Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that occur within your body to maintain life, including processes like digestion, respiration, and circulation. By slowing down these processes, your body reduces its energy expenditure, allowing it to conserve the limited energy available from the food you’ve consumed.
And, when you don’t eat enough, your body may begin to break down stored energy reserves, such as fat stores and muscle tissue, to provide fuel for essential functions. Fat stores are typically the first source of energy to be utilized during periods of food scarcity. However, if the shortage persists, your body may also start breaking down muscle tissue to extract amino acids for energy production. This can lead to muscle wasting and a decrease in muscle mass over time.❌💪
👏Plus, in survival mode, your body prioritizes ESSENTIAL bodily functions necessary for IMMEDIATE survival, such as maintaining heart function, respiration, and brain activity. Non-essential functions, such as reproduction, hormonal balance, growth, and tissue repair, may be downregulated or put on hold until food becomes available again.
