Soldiers in Niger have declared their takeover of power, detaining President Mohamed Bazoum since Wednesday.

The military announced the coup via a televised broadcast early on Thursday.

During the broadcast, ten military officers addressed President Bazoum directly, stating their seizure of power was to end the regime due to the “deteriorating security situation and bad governance.”

In their announcement, they declared the constitution dissolved, all institutions suspended, and the country’s borders closed.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to DCP Abba Kyari on charges bordering on money laundering.

President Tinubu meet with all the Service Chiefs.
The meeting took place today Monday and was the first time mr President engaged directly with the security chiefs since their appointment on June 19.

Guided by Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the meeting had in attendance prominent security officials. Among the attendees were Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff; Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff; Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff; Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff; and Kayode Egbetokun, the Acting Inspector General of Police.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has closed its defence in the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this is after only presenting one witness and submitting relevant documents.

Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), the lawyer representing INEC, announced the closure of the case following the testimony of Dr. Lawrence Bayode, an IT Practitioner from INEC and the sole witness.

Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has closed his case at the Presidential Election Petitions Court.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned there is a “serious danger” of NATO being drawn further into the Ukraine war if members of the alliance continue to supply military weaponry to Kyiv.
“NATO, of course, is being drawn into the war in Ukraine, what are we talking here,” Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.
“The supplies of heavy military weaponry to Ukraine are ongoing, they are now looking into giving Ukraine the jets.”
The comment appeared to be a reference to the F-16 fighter jets some members of the NATO alliance are making plans to supply Ukraine with.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has empanelled seven committees to investigate petitions against Judicial officers.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed his annual marathon phone-in after Ukraine launched its counteroffensive to reclaim territory, Russian media reported.
The "Direct Line" phone-in usually runs for hours and involves Putin fielding questions from ordinary Russian citizens about a range of social and policy issues.
It has been going since 2001, with Putin missing the event last year for the first time in 18 years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine began to suffer setbacks. He also missed the event in 2004.
A Kremlin source told Russian daily Kommersant that the 2023 event would likely be postponed until November or December, and linked the decision to the situation in Ukraine, where Ukrainian forces have launched a counteroffensive to drive back the Russian invasion.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian state media agency Tass that no date had been set for the event.
