The Power of Witnesses
Deuteronomy 17:6 KJV
[6] "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death"
God created all things that they might bear witness one for another, so that his works and his promises and his covenants might be established.
He himself is a Faithful witness that bears witness for the Son;
John 5:31, 37 KJV
[31] "If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
[37] And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape."
John the Baptist was also sent to bear witness of Jesus Christ:
John 1:6-7 KJV
[6] "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. [7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe."
One of the reasons God created Adam and Eve was for them to bear witness one for another, that the work of God might be established.
So, it was not good that the man should be alone.
But sadly, they fell because they walked alone.
Eve engaged the Devil and never bothered to check with Adam if what the serpent was saying to her were true.
Adam would have rebuked the serpent, but rather, she stood alone and " ate" the fruit first, before she gave to her husband that was with her.
They fell, because they could not bore witness one for another.
This was also why Jesus said:
Matthew 18:19 KJV
[19] "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven"
God expected Adam and Eve to have agreed as one against the serpent or the devil.
For anything to happen, there must be a minimum of two witnesses.
Eve bore witness with the Devil that the tree which God could kill them, is now good for food and pleasant to the eyes and could make one wise.
And she took it and ate it. (Gen 3:1-8)
God himself also speaks in the plural:
" Let us...."
Because
1 John 5:7 KJV
[7] "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one"
That is also why the scriptures were written by several authors so that they can all bear witness of the Son of God from Genesis to Revelation.
It is the same person everyone was speaking about
The Lord Jesus Christ.
Who himself is the faithful witness.
Now, for anything to be established for us or with us
We must have witnesses
1. The Lord is our witness:
Romans 1:9 KJV
[9]" For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;"
2. Our works must be our witness too
John 5:36 KJV
[36] "But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me."
What this means is that, does your works bear witness of the word of God?
3. Our Conscience also bears witness
Romans 2:15 KJV
[15] 'which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)"
4. The witness between the heart and the mouth.
Now one key witness that we must have on our side is the witness of our heart and our mouth.
The heart and the mouth must say the same thing all the time:
We believe therefore we speak
2 Corinthians 4:13 KJV
[13] "We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;"
We believe with our heart and speak with our mouth so that we can establish that which proceeds from our mouth.
5. Bearing witness of the Truth or the Word of God
This is another major aspect of the faith, that we agree with the Truth or the Word of God.
It is important that no matter what happens, we mustn't contradict the Word, but agree with it and bear witness of the Truth, for the Word is Truth.
God has made it this way that two or three must agree for things to be established in heaven and here on earth.
This is why the Church is the most powerful body on earth and even in heaven.
For we are all baptised into one Spirit and we have the same Mind and are of the same Body so that
Whatever we agree or bind or lose shall be done and established both in heaven and here on earth.
Because we also have the Witness of the Lord in our midst
For where 2 or 3 are gathered together in his name, there he is in the midst of them.
Let us therefore bear witness of the Lord and his finished works on the cross and the power of his resurrection
For there lies our salvation and redemption and healing and prosperity and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Praise God
In God's program, everything has its proper place and time and people for it to happen.
Exodus 19:10-11 KJV
[10] "And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, [11] and be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai"
The Lord came down upon Mount Sinai to give the Israelites the law. (Exodus 20).
God waited until they got to Mount Sinai before giving them the law.
The Lord opened our understanding to know that He has appointed e everything to happen in a particular place and particular time and with a particular person or people.
You know the Lord did not give them the law while they were in Egypt.
He waited until they left Egypt and came to Mount Sinai, before giving them the law.
In his program, the law must be from Sinai, away from the Egyptians.
It was also the same for Abraham.
He had to leave his country, Ur of Chaldees and his Father's house and kindred before God could bless him:
Genesis 12:1-2 KJV
[1] "Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: [2] and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:"
To God, Abraham must go out and away and from his people, before he can be blessed.
Certain things can only happen to us when we relocate or distance ourselves with some people and away from a particular environment.
Then for Abraham to enter into the promise land, even Canaan, Lot must separate from him:
Genesis 13:14-16 KJV
[14] "And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: [15] for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. [16] And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered"
Lot must depart or you must separate from certain people and certain place, before God can do certain things that he has promised.
We also saw it in Saul, the King, and his servant, who actually led him to Samuel.;
1 Samuel 9:23, 27 KJV
[23] "And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.
[27] And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God"
God wouldn't anoint Saul until the young man, his servant moved away from him.
Joseph also was blessed when God separated him from his brethren and took him into Egypt;
Deuteronomy 33:16 KJV
[16] "And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, And for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: Let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, And upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren"
Jesus also said to his disciples that it was expedient he goes away, otherwise the Comforter would not come.
This is God's way.
For Abraham, he said
Isaiah 51:2 KJV
[2] "Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him'
He called him alone.
Our prayer therefore is;
God should separate us unto himself, away from all those and all places that are not ordained for our glory.
God should deliver you from places and people that are causing delays and distractions and even destruction in your life and bring you into the place designed for your fruitfulness and success in your life in Jesus name.
God's time is set now.
The Lord will direct every step and life and people and bring you into the land for your revelation.
This is the set time to favour Zion.
Praise God
God cannot be limited to our personal experience with him, because his ways are past finding and far beyond our imaginations.
Exodus 17:5-6 KJV
[5] "And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. [6] Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel."
The Lord commanded Moses to use the rod in his hand and smite the rock and the rock shall bring forth water for the people to drink.
Water from a hard rock.
Just before this, in Chapter 15, they also came to a place where there was no water, and then they moved forward and found a pool of water, but the water was bitter:
Exodus 15:23 KJV
[23] "And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah"
Then, the Lord asked Moses to cast a tree into the water, and the water became sweet.
By casting something into the water suggests that this may be a pool of water.
Then they went forward and came to Elim;
Exodus 15:27 KJV
[27] "And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters"
This time, there were 12 wells of water.
Not pool of water or streams of water, but wells of water.
God is always showing how rich and wealthy he is.
Therefore, he led them to Rephidim, where they found no water again to drink and for their cattles.
It seems that there were no pools or streams or wells of water there.
But they are thirsty and were even planning to stone Moses.
But the place is filled with rocks.
Rocks do not contain water.
This is why God is God
And he told Moses:
Exodus 17:6 KJV
[6] "Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel."
He said he will stand upon the rock, and that Moses should strike the rock with the rod in his hand and the rock will bring forth water.
And it did.
He was just displaying his majesty.
He did that so that Israel can have a rest of mind in God.
That he can do all things.
Another truth is that with God, we should not be stereotyped.
We should not be fixated on one way or one means.
With God, he can produce his answers to your need in strange ways.
So the question is what next; what is God upto now?.
This is what God enjoys.
Always new things and new and living ways each new day
There is no idle or idol moment with God
God is always creating and bringing forth new things.
So, we do not have to make an idol out of God by holding forth to our very past experience with him, but only trust in him that he has an answer for everything all the time.
No wonder, Paul was bold when he said,
This one thing I do, forgetting the things that are past.
Not forgetting them that they never happened
But not holding them so tight that he is unable to lay hold on the present and reach forth to the future.
It is therefore not if God will do it or can do it
But more of how will he do it.
This was Mary's response to the Angel, when he told her that she will be pregnant as a virgin.
Which was completely new and strange, because women only get pregnant when they sleep with men.:
Luke 1:30-34 KJV
[30] "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. [31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. [32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [33] and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. [34] Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?"
Mary believed that she can be pregnant as a virgin, since the angel has said it.
But she only knows one way, a man must be involved,
But since she has not known a man,
How shall God do it. This is new to her.
This is how to follow up to know the Lord.
He will do it
He can do it
And truly, as the heavens are far above the earth
So also his ways are far above our ways
His ways are past finding.
This is the beauty of knowing the Lord
He doest have to bring forth water from the same way, that's too monotonous.
He wants to show his glory unto us
That, it is not only that can he do it
But he can also do it in many more glorious ways that we have never seen nor heard or known.
This destroys doubt
And builds faith
God will surely do it for you, believe it now, and see the glory of God.
And you can say Amen.
This was where Abraham was before Isaac was born:
Romans 4:17-22 KJV
[17] "(as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. [18] Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. [19] And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: [20] he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; [21] and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. [22] And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness."
Abraham was 100 years and Sarah was 90 years and they were both well stricken in ages
His body is dead and no more functioning as a man to get a woman pregnant
And Sarah's womb had died long ago
But he held on to God and was persuaded that what he has promised, he is also able to perform.
This is our God.
Nothing is too late
Nothing is too great
Nothing is too complex
Nothing is too expensive
Nothing is too dead.
He is never out of means or ideas
He is the Lord.
Praise God
We know no man after the flesh anymore since Christ died and resurrected from the dead.
2 Corinthians 5:16 KJV
[16] "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more."
Before Christ died on the cross, there was a veil covering the holiest of All, but when he died, that veil was torn into two to reveal the holiest of All, where God dwells in between the Cherubims. ,( Hebrews 9:1-5)
Matthew 27:50-51 KJV
[50] "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. [51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;"
By tearing the veil, it showed the very presence of God.
The things of God became visible and accessible.
At the same time, there was earthquake and the graves also were opened.
Matthew 27:52-53 KJV
[52] "and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many"
What these things signified was that every veil and every covering cast was torn apart and all those things which were once hidden before the eyes of men, can now be seen.
Another major veil that was torn also is the flesh:
Hebrews 10:19-20 KJV
[19] "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, [20] by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;"
Which means that all veils were torn apart during his crucifixion and death and resurrection.
Thus revealing or exposing everyone and every intent of the hearts of men.
Not only that, it also now exposes the spiritual world and the forces behind the operations of men.
All things are now naked before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
There is therefore no more secret and no more covering cast.
Even the flesh that covered, has been torn apart, revealing the spirits behind and the thoughts and intents of the hearts.
This was what Paul meant when he said; we no longer know any man in the flesh.
We can no more judge a man outwardly, but inwardly.
Because now, he that is spiritual, judgeth all things.
It was because of this operation that Peter could see through the acts of Ananias and Sapphira in the early church, when he confronted them:
Acts 5:1-3 KJV
[1] "But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, [2] and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. [3] But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?"
Peter by the Holy Spirit could now see beyond the veil, even the flesh into the operations in the heart.
So, we now understand when Paul said:
Ephesians 6:12 KJV
[12] "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places"
So, in the new testament and in Christ
We no longer fight our brothers and sisters and neighbours and colleagues as though they are our enemies in the flesh
But now we fight the spirits behind them, the spirit that is working in the people that are fighting us:
Ephesians 2:2 KJV
[2] "wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:"
Nobody knew then that their actions were influenced by some spiritual forces and powers.
But now, we know why she is fighting you or he is fighting you or why she is a pr******te or he is an armed robber.
The spirits behind them have been exposed because the veil has been torn apart.
Jesus of course was operating in this realm, when he turned around and rebuked Satan, even though we can only see Peter rebuking him, but Jesus saw beyond the veil of Peter:
Matthew 16:22-23 KJV
[22] "Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. [23] But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men"
Though it was Peter that spoke to him in the natural
But Jesus knew who was speaking, so he dealt with the real speaker and not with the vessel.
This is the Truth of the Gospel
Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh
For all things are naked now before the Lord.
This is our victory
That we now know who are our enemies
So that we can fight the good fight of faith and not as those that beat the air.
Praise God.
Keep moving forward, as you will arrive at your Rehoboth soon.
Genesis 26:1-3 KJV
[1] "And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. [2] And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: [3] sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;"
Walking with God requires full trust in his Word.
God is the Possessor of Heaven and Earth,
But God works with order and systems and laws.
For that he allows everything to work at its own time and space and pace.
And so, he allowed a famine in Gerar, in the land of the Philistines, and Isaac, his covenant son was there too.
Now Philistine is not a nation of God, yet in it was Isaac, the son of Abraham, his servant and friend, with whom he also entered into a covenant.
Isaac had wanted to go to Egypt too, but God told him not to go, but remain in that land.
And Isaac obeyed and remained in the land that was under famine and drought.
But by faith,
Genesis 26:6 KJV
[6] "And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:"
And
Genesis 26:12-14 KJV
[12] "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. [13] And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: [14] for he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him."
He sowed in that land
The land of famine
And reaped a 100 fold.
And became very wealthy
And the Philistines envied him.
Then, they began to attack his source of water, the wells:
Genesis 26:19-21 KJV
[19] "And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. [20] And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is our's: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him. [21] And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah"
Despite the frustration, but working under the covenant of God upon his life
Genesis 26:22 KJV
[22] "And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land"
One thing about Isaac was that
He was a man that never looked back, but always going forward.
He knew the covenant upon his life, and held to God's word that he will bless him in that land.
So despite the attack and the frustration,
He knew God cannot lie.
So, he kept pushing, not knowing exactly where,
But God knows that every attack and every frustration was pushing him to his Rehoboth.
Just like life of Joseph and his destiny
Every thing they did, pushed him closer to the palace.
He was sold to the Ishmalites, who sold him to Portiphar and from Portiphar's house to the prison for the king's servants and from there to the palace.
You may also be experiencing such hatred and envy and accusations and attacks
But everything they do or say is only pushing you to your Rehoboth or the Palace.
For if the Philistines had not envied Isaac and strove with him, he could have settled for less.
But because God knows that your Rehoboth awaits you, he will allow your enemies to attack you, so that they can push you forward to your Rehoboth.
And finally, Isaac got to his Rehoboth, where there was no more striving again.
And the Lord knows what you are going through
But as long as you do not stop, but like Isaac, keep pushing and pressing forward
You will finally reach your Rehoboth.
Do not therefore give up
Keep praying and trusting God and keeping pushing and pressing
You are just a few hours away.
Do not give up.
You are closer to your landing point, than when you first started on the journey.
And I pray that you find your Rehoboth now in Jesus name.
Praise God
Jesus Christ is God's Way of resolving all problems and reconciling all things to himself, except with the devil.
2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
[19] "to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation"
God had issues with man in Eden, for 4000 years, God worked through prophets and in diverse means to reconcile with man.
But nothing worked, even the first covenant with it's ordinances.
Until God was manifest in the flesh in Christ.
Then, the entire work was done, finished and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
In Christ,
God forgave the world
Saved the world
Conquered the world
Reconciled with the world
Destroyed he that hath the power of death
Overcame death
In Christ,
God created a new set of people
Created a new earth and a new heaven
Men became sons of God
Men were made to sit at the right hand of God
Men became superior to Angels.
In Christ
He reconciled the Jews and the Gentiles into one body.
In Christ
He gave the devil a second chance through Judas
Made him an apostle
Even made him to eat the last supper, which if any man eat of it, he will be saved unto eternal life
But Judas ate the last supper with them
Yet Satan still entered into him
And still betrayed the Lord
And also committed su***de
God by this showing that
He is able to
Save all men
Heal all men
Deliver all men
Reconcile with all men
Restore all men
In Christ
The only person that cannot be saved, and healed and restored in Christ
Is the son of perdition
John 17:12 KJV
[12] "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled"
Those that thou gavest me, I have kept,
And none of them is lost
But the son of perdition.
So, truly, it was God that gave him Judas so that he can have a second chance.
Jesus also testified
John 6:70-71 KJV
[70] "Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? [71] He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve"
And this is the Truth
All men can be saved.
Only the children of the devil will be lost.
God also knows those that will be saved,
Those that are sons of men,
But the children of the devil cannot be saved
Even though God would want them to be saved, like in Judas Iscariot
But, in the end
Satan, their father will come into them and take them with him to hell.
And Satan entered into Judas, and Judas went out, and it was night.
John 13:27-30 KJV
[27] "And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. [28] Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. [29] For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. [30] He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night."
God is willing and ready to save all men unto eternal life in Christ.
For it is only in Christ and by Christ and through Christ
That there is salvation
And redemption
And reconciliation
And eternal life.
And if you are reading this
It means this is your hour of salvation and redemption and healing and prosperity and strength and restoration.
Praise God
Just trust the Lord to lead you to your safe haven. He knows everything and has arranged everything and is also in charge of everything.
Psalm 23:1-2 KJV
[1] "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters"
The Lord is not a Man, but a Spirit.
He is omnipresent and omniscient - that is all knowing, and he is also omnipotent - all powerful.
He fills the heavens and the earth.
And he is eternal
So the Lord is in heaven and also in us, and his presence fills the earth.
Now, heaven is even his throne and the earth, his footstool.
So where is his house?
He is in the midst of his creations, yet the whole world is in his hands.
He created the heavens and the earth, and when Jesus aecended, the Bible said
He ascended far above all heavens.
And sat at the right hand of God.
Which means God dwells above all heavens.
He is in heaven, and yet he is also far above all heavens.
He is always a wonder and a mystery.
You can only know him, when he reveals himself to you.
For you cannot know him by searching.
That is why the knowledge of God passes all understanding.
He is unsearchable.
This is our God.
Oh that we can know him.
No wonder, Paul cried and said
"That I may know him"
He declares the end from the beginning.
He knows us even before we were formed in our mothers womb
He is the Lord.
He knows all our needs and how to provide for them.
He is able to protect and defend and plead our case.
He makes diviners mad
In his presence, no enchantment or divination can work against his people
All power belongs to him.
This is our God
And you are safe with him.
Praise God
That your faith and hope might be in God.
1 Peter 1:21 KJV
[21] "who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God"
There is a big challenge here for God's people:
Having faith in God, but then expects the result or the performance to come from men.
Though we deeply believe in God with an unshakable faith, yet, we transfer the performance of our faith to men.
We believe in God
But look up to men for performance
Our faith is in God
But our hope is in men.
This is the issue.
Jesus believed in God
And also hoped in God.
What is hope?
It is what we look forward to, basically from what we have believed.
So, I prayed to God and believed that he has answered my prayers.
Then I shift my focus from God and began to look at the face of man to perform.
We do not believe God enough to perform it.
We do not believe God to perform what he has promised.
It was said of Abraham that
Romans 4:18-22 KJV
[18] "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. [22] And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness"
There are two hopes
1. Abraham was looking up to his natural body and that of Sarah to conceive and bring forth Isaac.
2. That was the first hope. The hope his natural body will perform.
3. Then as time goes on, he realised that his natural body and Sarah's womb could no longer perform.
4. Hope in the flesh was now dead.
5. So he switched to hope in God.
Who against hope, believed in hope
That he was persuaded that God was able to perform.
Even though his body and the womb of Sarah could no longer perform, God can perform.
Modecai also came to his Hope in God, when he told Esther that
Esther 4:13-14 KJV
[13] "Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. [14] For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"
He told her that, if she fails to help them
God is able to bring help elsewhere.
Paul also testified that when even his closest friends forsook him, the Lord Jesus Christ stood with him:
2 Timothy 4:16-17 KJV
[16] "At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. [17] Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion."
All men forsook me, even Timothy and others
But the Lord stood by him.
Also when he was being ferried to Rome. There was a great storm, he said:
Acts 27:20, 23-24 KJV
[20] "And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
[23] For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, [24] saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee"
As usual, the human hope that by our experience and knowledge and connections will always fail
Then the hope in God will always perform.
Let us therefore not only believe in God but also look up to him to perform what he has promised.
Therefore
Hebrews 12:2-3 KJV
[2] "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. [3] For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds"
If we believe in him
We should also look up to him to perform
For he has promised
I will not leave you not forsake you
Praise God
