Know Your Chicken’s P**p 4 Types of Diarrhea, What They Mean & How to Treat

1. Watery Diarrhea
Cause Heat stress, poor-quality water, too much salt, or sudden feed change.

✓ Treatment
~ Provide clean, cool water with electrolytes.
~ Avoid feed with high salt.
~ Improve ventilation.

2. Green Diarrhea
Cause Viral infections (Newcastle), feed withdrawal, or bile.

✓ Treatment
~ Isolate sick birds.
~ Give multivitamins (esp. A, D, E).
~ Use antibiotics if secondary infection is suspected.

3. Yellow Diarrhea
Cause Bacterial infection (e.g. E. coli), poor digestion.

✓ Treatment
~ Administer appropriate antibiotics (e.g. oxytetracycline).
~ Clean and disinfect water and feeders.

4. Bloody Diarrhea
Cause Coccidiosis (intestinal parasite).

✓ Treatment
~ Use anticoccidial drugs like Amprolium or Sulfadimidine.
~ Clean litter, isolate affected birds, and disinfect housing.

✓ Prevention Tip
Keep poultry house clean, provide good feed, water, and follow regular deworming and vaccination schedules.
