What I discovered destroyed my marriage.

One evening I was driving home from work, tired and frustrated. Traffic was terrible as usual, and my mind was full of thoughts.
For the past few months I had been thinking about my life and my marriage.
I work very hard. I leave home early and return late almost every day. Yet at the end of every month, I hardly have anything left for myself.
Most of my salary goes into taking care of my home, my wife, and our needs.
And I never complained about it.
In fact, I felt proud that I could provide for my family.
When I married my wife seven years ago, she had nothing much. She was still struggling to find her direction in life.
I stood by her.
I supported her dreams.
I paid for professional courses for her.
I helped her start a small business.
I even used my savings to rent a shop for her so she could grow.
Seeing her succeed made me happy because I believed that was what love was supposed to be.
But one night, while lying on my bed, a strange thought entered my mind.
Does my wife truly love me the same way I love her?
I tried to ignore the thought at first.
But the more I thought about it, the more curious I became.
So I decided to do something.
Not to hurt her… but just to understand her heart.
A few days later, I came home looking very sad and weak.
My wife noticed immediately.
She asked,
“What is wrong with you?”
I sighed deeply and told her that I had visited the hospital earlier that day because I had been feeling strange pains in my chest.
Then I told her the doctor said I might need a serious surgery very soon.
Her face changed immediately.
Instead of asking how I was feeling, the first thing she asked was:
“How much will the surgery cost?”
I told her the doctor estimated it could cost around 4 million naira.
She became quiet.
Very quiet.
Then she said something that broke my heart.
She said:
“That kind of money is too much. Where do you expect us to get it from?”
I reminded her that we had some savings and that her business was doing well too.
Then she replied:
“My business money cannot enter hospital matter. That money is for expanding my shop.”
At that moment I felt a pain in my chest that was deeper than any illness.
I looked at her and asked softly:
“So if I cannot raise the money, what will happen to me?”
She shrugged her shoulders and said:
“Well… we will pray. God is in control.”
That night I could not sleep.
I kept thinking about everything I had done for her.
All the sacrifices.
All the support.
All the love.
Yet when I needed her support the most, she was already calculating losses.
The next morning, I called her and told her the truth.
There was no hospital.
No surgery.
No illness.
It was only a test.
She became angry immediately.
She said I had no right to test her love.
Maybe she was right.
But I had already seen the truth in her heart.
Love should not only exist when things are comfortable.
Real love shows itself when things become difficult.
That day I learned something very important about life:

Some people enjoy the benefits of love…
But they are not ready to carry the sacrifices that come with it.
Since that day, I have started rethinking many things about my life.
Because sometimes the hardest truth to accept is realizing that the person you are ready to sacrifice everything for…
may not be ready to sacrifice anything for you.
Life has a way of revealing people's true hearts when situations become difficult.
And when it does…
you must be brave enough to accept the truth.
