🧄 GARLIC: SMALL FOOD, STRONG EFFECT
Most people know garlic as “that thing we add to stew” 😭🍲
But garlic is actually one of the most researched medicinal plants in nutrition and health.
And honestly, the more you study food science, the more you realize that some foods are doing far more inside the body than we think.
🧄 What exactly is garlic?
Garlic comes from the plant:
Allium sativum
Family: Liliaceae
It is cultivated worldwide, and the bulb (clove) is the part mostly consumed.
You can eat garlic:
✔️ fresh
✔️ dried
✔️ powdered
✔️ as oil
✔️ as supplements/capsules
Why does garlic smell so strong?
That strong smell comes from a compound called allicin.
When garlic is crushed, chopped, or chewed, a compound called alliin converts into allicin, the active substance responsible for:
🦠 antibacterial effects
🧫 antifungal effects
🛡️ immune-support properties
That smell you perceive is literally chemistry happening 😭
What research actually says about garlic
One thing about nutrition is: Not every popular health claim is fully proven.
So let’s separate:
✅ evidence-backed facts
from
⚠️ unproven claims
✅ Evidence-backed benefits
1. Garlic may help blood pressure
Research suggests garlic can modestly help lower blood pressure, especially in people with hypertension.
This may happen because garlic helps blood vessels relax and improves circulation.
But: ⚠️ garlic is NOT a replacement for prescribed hypertension medication.
2. Garlic may affect blood clotting
Garlic may reduce platelet stickiness.
It can slightly reduce how easily blood clots form.
This is why people taking blood thinners must be careful with excessive garlic supplements.
3. Garlic and heart health
Some studies suggest garlic may help:
✔️ improve blood vessel elasticity
✔️ reduce plaque formation in arteries
But research on cholesterol reduction is mixed.
Some older studies suggested benefit. More recent studies found little or no significant effect.
This is why science keeps evolving...
4. Antibacterial and antimicrobial effects
Allicin has strong antimicrobial properties.
Garlic has historically been used for:
✔️ infections
✔️ wound cleansing
✔️ respiratory issues
But again: Traditional use does not always equal strong clinical evidence.
⚠️ Claims that are NOT fully proven yet
People claim garlic helps:
cancer prevention
flu treatment
chronic infections
intestinal worms
immune boosting
chronic catarrh
Some of these areas are still being researched.
There is not enough strong evidence yet to make definitive medical claims.
⚠️ Side effects of garlic
This is where many people get it wrong.
Because something is “natural” does NOT mean: “Take plenty.”
Too much raw garlic can cause:
😭 stomach irritation
😭 bloating
😭 ulcers
😭 nausea
😭 bad breath
😭 body odor
And yes… raw garlic in public transport should honestly be classified as emotional damage 😭🚌
⚠️ Garlic interactions
Garlic supplements can interact with medications, especially:
💊 blood thinners
💊 HIV medications
💊 some surgical medications
This is why self-medicating with herbal mixtures every day is risky.
Food can support health.
Food can protect health.
Food can influence body systems.
But food is not magic.
One mistake many people make is turning one ingredient into a miracle cure.
Your overall lifestyle still matters:
🥗 balanced diet
💧 hydration
😴 sleep
🏃 movement
🚭 avoiding harmful habits
And honestly? Garlic is powerful… but if you overdo it recklessly, even the people around you will start fasting from your presence 😭🧄

🌸🩸 HAPPY WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY TO MY GIRLIES 🌸
Can we honestly take a moment to appreciate women? 😭❤️🫂
Because every month, the female body goes through:
hormonal changes
cramps
fatigue
mood swings
headaches
cravings
discomfort
…and somehow women still show up to school, work, business, caregiving, cooking, classes, presentations, life 😭🌍
Honestly, women are strong.
Yesterday is not just about pads. It is about: 🌸 dignity
🌸 education
🌸 hygiene
🌸 health
🌸 access
🌸 understanding the female body without shame...
Because menstruation is not dirty.
It is not a taboo.
It is not something girls should suffer silently through.
And let’s talk about something important:
Some girls miss school because of periods.
Some cannot afford menstrual products.
Some grow up without proper menstrual education.
Some suffer severe pain and are told: “Every woman goes through it.” 🥹
Meanwhile their bodies may actually need medical attention.
🩸 Menstrual hygiene matters.
Please:
✔️ change sanitary products regularly
✔️ maintain proper intimate hygiene
✔️ stay hydrated
✔️ nourish your body properly
✔️ rest when necessary
✔️ seek help if symptoms become excessive...
Heavy bleeding, extremely painful cramps, very irregular cycles, or unusual symptoms should not always be ignored.
And to every girl silently struggling through cramps today while acting normal…
😭❤️🫂 I see you.
To every woman carrying pain quietly and still functioning…
You are doing a lot. 🫂🥰🙏💐
This is also your reminder that nutrition matters during menstruation 🌿
Your body loses blood and goes through physiological changes, so:
🥬 iron-rich foods
💧 hydration
🍊 vitamin C foods
🥚 adequate protein
🌰 magnesium-rich foods
can support the body during this phase.
Here’s to healthier periods, better education, less shame, and more support for girls and women everywhere 🌸🩸

Have You Ever Wondered Why You Automatically Close Your Eyes When You See Morning Sun?
Like… you just wake up peacefully 😭
You step outside… and BOOM.
Your eyes immediately say:
“Please take me back inside.” 😭
Some people even sneeze instantly after looking at bright sunlight.
Honestly, I used to think it was just “morning eye” or maybe my eyes were being dramatic 😭
Until I learned that your body is actually trying to PROTECT you.
And the science behind it is honestly interesting.
When you sleep or stay in a dark room, your pupils naturally become wider.
Why?
Because your eyes are trying to gather more light in darkness.
But the moment you suddenly step into bright morning sunlight 🌞…
Your eyes experience a sharp flood of light.
Immediately, your body activates something called the pupillary light reflex.
That means:
your pupils quickly become smaller to reduce the amount of light entering your eyes.
And while this is happening, your eyes may:
- squint
- close briefly
- feel uncomfortable
- water slightly
This is your body’s natural protection system.
🌞 Your eyes are not “weak.”
Your body is simply trying to prevent:
- sensory overload
- eye discomfort
- excessive light exposure
- possible retinal stress
Your brain basically says:
“Too much light at once. Protect the eyes first.” 😭
Now this part surprised me 👀
Some people even SNEEZE when they look at bright sunlight.
Yes 😭
It’s a real thing.
It is called the Photic Sneeze Reflex or ACHOO syndrome.
Research shows that in some people, the optic nerve and trigeminal nerve are located very close together.
So when bright light suddenly stimulates the eyes, the signal may accidentally “cross-trigger” the nerve connected to sneezing.
Meaning:
your eyes saw sunlight…
but your nose reacted 😭
Human body, please explain yourself.
One thing I keep learning is this:
The body is constantly communicating.
Even little reactions we ignore daily usually have explanations.
Your eyes closing in bright sunlight is not random.
It is biology.
It is protection.
It is your nervous system responding exactly the way it was designed to.
Therefore,
Protect your eyes too.
Especially during harsh sunlight.
And please…
if sunlight enters your room in the morning and you suddenly squeeze your face like boiled bitterleaf 😭
Now you know the science behind it.
