Something as basic as the protection of life and property has become a luxury we can no longer afford in Nigeria.
The last stanza of our national anthem says:
“O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request:
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.”
But the country we call our motherland is fast becoming a place of fear and uncertainty. Lives are lost daily, governance is failing, and the economy keeps biting harder. Rights feel like privileges, and in many parts especially in the North. Life itself feels like a gamble under constant threat from groups like Boko Haram. One moment you’re with your family, the next moment everything changes.
Elections are around the corner, yet the focus for many is still rice and a little cash while the real issues remain untouched. After the votes, the ordinary citizen is left to face fear, hardship, and survival alone.
May God console the souls of those lost in Jos 😭
