The basis of Thai massage is the theory of energy channels. There are 72,000 of them in traditional Thai medicine, but there are ten main ones. They are called so - Sen Sib ("Sen" means line, "Sib" - ten).
In this way, Thai traditional medicine is very close to Chinese and Indian medicine, where there also exist theories about the energy structure of the human body.
The greatest similarity is with Indian medicine, and the three main Thai channels are almost exactly the same as the three Nadi channels, well known to anyone who has ever practiced yoga and pranayama. Also Sen Sib strongly coincide with myofascial meridians. From Chinese medicine Thai medicine differs in that Chinese meridians are associated with a specific organ, while Sen Sib are not.
During a Thai massage session, the massage therapist almost always starts from the feet (since the feet are considered one of the energy gates to the body) and works with the entire body of the patient in order to have an impact on all Sen Sib. The correct influence on the channels affects both the physiological processes (lymphatic drainage, muscle release, etc.) and the psychological state of the patient. The main goal of Thai massage is to bring the body and mind of the patient to harmony, remove tensions and blocks, and a correct work with Sen Sib gives a deep and lasting effect.

Headache is, I think, the most popular complaint among my clients in a massage practice.
π€― Types of headache are different, not every headache can be removed with massage (migraine, for example, not), and the causes of headache are also different.
The most common cause is, of course, stress that causes chronic stiffness and overstrain of the muscles of the neck and back, and wrong posture (hi to all IT-specialists and everyone who has to sit for a long time)
β How to help yourself if there is no opportunity to visit a massage therapist as soon as possible?
βMy top 3 tips that I use myself are:
π₯ Buy two tennis balls, put them in an old sock and tie them tightly so that the balls inside are pressed against each other and do not roll. Than stand against the wall, place the ball between the trapezium and the wall and gently lean on (see slide 2)
π₯ For upper back self-massage lie on the floor, place the balls so that they are on either side of the backbone. Relax. If you want, roll the balls higher and lower, kneading the area between the shoulder blades (if you have a hernia of the thoracic spine - do it carefully!) (see slide 3)
𦱠Run your fingers through your hair, grab it close to the roots, and gently pull. Do not grab and pull on the middle of the hair - it will hurt, grab as close to the roots as possible. Do this all over the head, it relaxes, relieves headaches and reduces blood pressure (hypotonics, do it carefully!).
Then gently massage the back of your neck in a circular motion with your fingertips, first from top to bottom, then from bottom to top.
These lifehacks should help you slightly relieve headache yourself. Πnd do not hesitate to seek professional help: massage is rarely superfluous and helps for a long time ππ

Before a session starts, I always ask a person - what is your request or intention for our session today? It is not always easy to formulate it briefly, so you can always say this in your own words:
γ°οΈ I constantly feel tired and want to be more energetic
γ°οΈ It hurts ... (you can show the place!)
γ°οΈ I have a lot of stress at work and I want to relax
γ°οΈ I do not sleep well / I have insomnia, I just want to sleep better
γ°οΈ I want to feel less anxious
γ°οΈ nothing has changed, but I feel drained
γ°οΈ I cannot get rid of constant unpleasant thoughts in my head and because of this I feel exhausted
γ°οΈ I want to gain experience in safety and acceptance
I work with all of these requests - and many, many others.
I use every suitable technique that I own, from my absolutely loved Thai massage to energy healing. And most often, in requests about feelings, thoughts and emotions - it is healing, possibly combined with body or massage therapy. I work at all levels for and excellent result.

I took an excellent course about Trauma Informed care in Massage Therapy (see the certificate in the carrousel) and it convinced me of my working approach.
Low pain threshold, longstanding stress, difficult childbirth, surgeries, accidents, violence etc. - the body remembers all these traumas, and the task of the helping body-oriented practitioner is to be careful in the process of work, not to cause retraumatization, but to help the client's body to reduce trauma or get rid of it.
Trauma-informed massage therapy that I practice is:
π when I listen deeply to the client's body and its reactions.
π a selection of suitable, mostly gentle techniques to make the help more effective, not to trigger trauma (if it exists), and to bring the central nervous system into a state of deep rest.
π always asking the permission to touch the abdomen, face, hair, ask the permission for some techniques, because they can be psychologically uncomfortable, and explain what I will do before some techniques.
π an understanding of what to do and how to help in case of an uncontrolled emotional outburst and other difficult conditions (in 2019 I took a first aid course in the Red Cross β so I'm prepared).
π creating a safe an supportive space where client can always say no or ask for a pause.
π always asking what the session request is and work with it.
π after 2-3 days inquire about the client's well-being.
Trauma-informed massage therapy is about respect for the client and the client's body, for the experience (often hard and negative), the trauma and pain that it holds. Before the session, I always tell clients "We are here and now just for you. What are your wishes for today's session?".
