I Need a “Man”
When all else fails, I just need a man,
A man manlier than a man ever can,
Who mends every trouble with gentle command,
With softness and sympathy guiding his hand
Someone who knows to calm fire with water,
Who lays down his pride, a true-hearted lover,
To show his partner through struggle and strife,
How deeply she matters, the love of his life
Someone who yearns, someone who learns,
Whose tender heart twists and stomach churns,
Whenever conflicts spark and burn,
Within the love for which they yearn
Tell me, when should a woman leave?
Is it when she’s left with only grief,
When problems rise and she’s left hanging,
Still the one who keeps on mending,
A bond that should be two hearts clinging—
A companionship, not a one-sided thing
Man, man, what a web we weave,
When a woman wonders if it’s time to leave
Is it ’cause happy times can’t fill the gap,
Even after sharing a hearty laugh?
Does he love me only when it’s happy,
Then leave me to mend my heart when it’s sappy?
Or is it the truth I don’t want to see—
An indication of how less he loves me?
