Malaria
Malaria is a life- threatening disease caused by plasmodium parasites,which are transmitted to human through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes.The five Plasmodium species that causes malaria in human are
*Plasmodium Falciparum (most severe form)
*Plasmodium vivax
*Plasmodium ovale
*Plasmodium Malariae
*Plasmodium Knowles(zoonotic malaria)
Diagnosis.
1.Microscopy:
*Gold standard for Malaria diagnosis.
*Thick and thin blood smears stained with Giemsa and examined under a microscope.
*Identifies species and parasite density.
2.Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT)
*Detects Plasmodium antigen in blood.
*useful in areas without microscopy access.
3.Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
*Used for Research and confirmation in specialized labs.
*Detects low level infections and species differentiation.
Clinical Features of Malaria
1.Uncomplicated Malaria:
*Fever,Chills,Sweating
*Headache,muscle aches,fatigue
*Nausea,vomiting, diarrhea
2.Severe Malaria (usually caused by P.falciparum)
*Impaired consciousness or coma
*Severe anemia (HB
To prevent heat stroke:
Stay Hydrated
1. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
2. Avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks.
Dress Wisely
1. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
2. Choose light-colored clothing to reflect the sun.
Stay Cool
1. Stay in shaded areas or indoors during peak sun hours (10am-4pm).
2. Use cooling devices like fans or air conditioners.
Avoid Strenuous Activities
1. Limit physical activity during hot weather.
2. Schedule outdoor activities for cooler times of the day.
Monitor Your Body
1. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion (dizziness, nausea, headaches).
2. Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
Additional Tips
1. Check on vulnerable individuals (elderly, children, pets).
2. Be aware of heatwave forecasts and plan accordingly.
