My eldest, Mattheus, working on his maths homework.
15 minutes trying, we've been stuck on this question, both struggling. I texted his tuition teacher for help in the end.
Many times he told me, “Mum, it’s so hard. I don’t want to do it.”
My heart aches, seeing how much stress these PSLE kids carry at such a young age.
I don’t push for perfection.
I just keep encouraging him to try, to take it slow, to do at least a little.
This moment isn’t about the maths.
It’s about you trying even when it’s hard.
About you not giving up, even when you want to.
One day you’ll look back and forget this question, but I hope you’ll remember:
Mum was always right here, cheering you on.

So here's the thing about Mattheus (12):
He does NOT practice unless I turn into a nagging monster. Like, I'm on high pitch "Mattheus, please go and practice your piano" a hundred times.
This was one of those days. I forced him. I recorded randomly, zero expectations. Honestly I was just recording so that I can have some videos to look back in the future.
AND THEN THIS HAPPENED.
His fingers just... flew?? Like suddenly he knew what he was doing?? I sat there trying not to make a sound in case it broke the magic.
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER he completed this song without stopping or wrong notes.
I'm posting this to remind myself that nagging works. And this is also to let him know that he is capable of way more than he believes.
