“HELP! I HAVE DARK SPOTS ON MY FACE AND NOTHING I DO MAKES IT GO AWAY!😱😢”

If you experience this, you probably have hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is a condition where your skin produces extra melanin as a result of sun exposure, hormonal influences, ageing and skin injuries or inflammation.

How do you treat this?

You would need to see a dermatologist to treat this condition. But if for some reason you cannot, then there are some ingredients that you can get in over-the-counter products.

I’ve listed a few ingredients in Picture 5. There are others like resveratrol, tranexamic acid and azelaic acid, just to name a few.

If you want me to talk more about how each of the ingredients work, comment “Ingredients for Hyperpigmentation” so that I know you enjoy these type of posts and will do more of them.

TINY BUMPS TROUBLES, HELP ME!

There are a few reasons why you might have tiny bumps on your skin that refuse to go away even when you’re consistent with your skincare routine.

Disrupted / damaged skin barrier as a result of over-processed skin from using products with AHAs / BHAs / PHAs twice daily can be the cause of your tiny bumps troubles.

Stop using these products and give your skin a break for a couple of weeks to repair by going back to basic cleanse, treat and protect routine then when your skin feels better, re-introduce actives slowly and reduce the frequency of using products with AHAs / BHAs / PHAs to 1-2 times a week.

During the break, use products with ingredients that helps repair and supports skin barrier functions like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and synthetic urea to name a few.

It could also be a sign that your skincare is too rich or not hydrating / moisturising enough for your skin.

In this case, switch to products that are more suitable to your skin type and its needs.

Skincare done right leaves your skin feeling balanced and looking clear and healthy.

A SKINCARE ROUTINE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ELABORATE. A basic one will do as long as you DO NOT have too many skin concerns to treat and are REALISTIC with your expectations.

Any skincare routine should have these 3 + 1 elements:

1. Cleanse - cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser that is suitable for your skin type and can clean off excess oil, dirt, bacteria and sunscreen and do double cleanse in the evening. You can use the same cleanser to do double cleanse if you want although traditionally a double cleanse requires first an oil cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser.

2. Treat - Apply a moisturiser that has a cocktail of actives that supports your skin barrier function and nourishes and protects your skin while keeping it hydrated and balanced. There are many such moisturisers in the market now.

3. Protect - Apply a physical / mineral broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF50 PA+++ / PA++++ as the last step of your daytime skincare routine to protect your skin from harm UVA and UVB radiation. UVA radiation is the biggest contributor to premature ageing as it creates free radicals in your skin which steals from your cells causing them to become broken and unstable which can turn them into mutated cancerous cells and kills collagen giving your face that hollow and droopy look. UVB radiation burns your skin. That is why sunscreen is the Mother of Skincare. No skincare regime can be successful without including sunscreen in it.

4. Exfoliate - This is your +1. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week or if you are 40 years old and above, only 1 time a week. This gets rid of the top most layer of your skin which is basically made of dead skin cells. This helps prevent your skin from looking dull as dead skin cells do not reflect light well, and this also ensures better absorption of skincare products.

SENSITIVE SKIN BOTHERING YOU? You can actually treat it.

The troubles highlighted in Pic 3 are mainly the symptoms to point No. 1: Disrupted / damaged skin barrier.

The cause? Over-processing your skin by using harsh skincare products containing AHAs, BHAs and PHAs and exfoliating fruit enzymes that strip your skin’s natural moisture twice daily.

What are AHAs / BHAs / PHAs?
AHA: glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, azelaic acid
BHA: salicylic acid
PHA: gluconolactone, galactose, lactobionic acid
Fruit enzymes: papain (papaya fruit extract / enzyme), bromelain (pineapple fruit extract / enzyme)

Products with these ingredients should only be used 2-3 times a week at night depending on your skin’s needs. If you are 40 years old and above, you would want to use these products only 1 time a week at night.

To repair your skin barrier, stop all your actives (retinoids and acids) for 2 weeks. During this time, go back to basic skincare routine of cleanser and moisturiser and in the morning, add a physical / mineral sunscreen as the last step to your skincare.

Choose cleansers that have niacinamide and hyaluronic acid (humectant) and a moisturiser that has niacinamide and ceramides, lipids or natural moisturising factors to replenish and repair your skin barrier.

Choose a physical sunscreen with the ingredient Zinc Oxide high in the ingredients list. Its anti-inflammatory property will reduce inflammation on your skin as a result of sensitivity.

Once your skin is feeling better, you can re-introduce your actives into your skincare routine slowly and in the correct doses.

ACNE BE GONE!

Acne breakouts are painful and down right annoying. It hurts your confidence and screams for your attention.

I know. I’ve been there, only recently. At the end of July and about halfway through August this year, I had a hormonal acne breakout! This really affected me because I’m creating content around skincare and makeup so breakouts stresses me out.

But, alhamdulillah, I was able to manage it within a month. With a good understanding of my skin type and skin concerns and skincare products that have the right ingredients for my skin’s needs, my skin is now happier and healthier.

Most of the acne scars are gone. The ones left are the most recent ones that popped up and even those are fading away.

I have combination skin. I get oily in my T-Zone, on my cheeks near my nose and on my chin and dry everywhere else. Now I feel my skin is more balanced and hydrated throughout my face.

You can achieve healthier skin too. Follow me for more skincare tips. DM me for a FREE consultation and I’ll guide you on how to begin your skincare journey.

OUR SKIN IS CONSTANTLY ASSAULTED BY UVA RADIATION EVEN WHEN WE ARE INDOORS!

As Dr. Shah mentioned in his video, "UVA radiation penetrates window glass and is the BIGGEST CONTRIBUTOR to AGEING."

So that means a SOLID ANTI-AGEING SKINCARE ROUTINE for people with SKIN OF COLOUR (anyone who gets a tan when they are exposed to the sun) is only COMPLETE if you include a BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN with SPF 50 PA+++ (preferably PA++++).

Sunscreen is the MOTHER OF SKINCARE because if you don't protect your skin from the sun's rays, NONE of your skincare products are going to work.

My favourite sunscreen is the Miracle Protection Moisturizing Sunscreen from Ferrarossa Beauty because:

✅️ SPF 50 PA+++
✅️ fast absoprtion
✅️ formulated with hydrating ingredients like Olive Oil & Hyaluronic Acid
✅️ formulated with skin-soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera

It's also the least irritating sunscreen I've worn and it does not dry up my skin.

What's your favourite sunscreen?

5 THINGS TO DO TO GET BABY SMOOTH SKIN TO THE TOUCH EVERY MORNING:

1. Have a basic daytime SKINCARE ROUTINE which includes a gentle cleanser, a moisturising toner or essence, a suitable serum for your skin's needs, a moisturiser (preferably a gel one to suit our hot and humid climate) and most importantly, a BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN that soothes and hydrates your skin as it protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays

2. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. HYDRATION is key in having good skin.

3. Re-apply SUNSCREEN every 2 HOURS.

4. DO NOT SKIP your nighttime SKINCARE ROUTINE. Choose the best skincare products that treats your skin concerns and include a hydrating overnight sleeping mask.

5. Make sure to apply your skincare 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU SLEEP. Otherwise, all that product will end up on your pillowcase instead of on and in your skin.
