JUBA, JULY 7, 2026 -- The Vice President of the Republic and 1st Deputy Chairperson of the SPLM Party, H.E. Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, today attended the closing session of the SPLM Leadership Summit alongside the President of the Republic and Chairman of the SPLM Party, H.E. Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit, in Juba.
During the event, the party leadership renewed their commitment to peace, party unity, and preparations for the South Sudan general elections slated for December 22, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, the SPLM 1st Deputy Chairperson, Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, acknowledged the importance of the party’s vision and mission. “Every successful political party is built upon a clear vision and a purposeful mission,” he said.
Cde. Prof. Igga further noted the significance of translating policy into action. “However, these statements only become meaningful when they are translated into practical actions that positively impact the lives of the people,” he said.
The Summit brought together SPLM National and States Leadership.

VICE PRESIDENT IGGA PRESENTS ON SPLM STRUCTURES AND CONVENTION PREPARATIONS AT PARTY RETREAT
JUBA, JULY 3, 2026 — The Vice President of the Republic and 1st Deputy Chairperson of the SPLM Party, H.E. Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, today made a presentation on the organization of SPLM structures and activities, congress structures, and the SPLM 3rd National Convention and party transformation.
The presentation was part of the leadership meeting organized by the party leadership and presided over by H.E. Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic and Chairman of the SPLM Party.
Held in Juba, the meeting aims to address critical party issues and prepare for the December 22, 2026 general elections.
“The meeting will pave the way for party members to get ready as we prepare for the general elections in December,” said Cde. Prof. Igga.
Held under the theme: "Transforming SPLM Vision into Action", the meeting brought together senior SPLM members from all Ten States and the Administrative Areas.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐄 𝟐𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga, yesterday met with a delegation from the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness Church at his office in Juba.
H.E. Prof. Igga commended the church for its role in preaching peace, unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation across South Sudan.
The Vice President further urged the church to continue supporting the government in its efforts to achieve durable peace and economic stability.
The church delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government and pledged to encourage South Sudanese communities in the diaspora to return home to contribute to nation building.

South Sudan Economic Cluster lifts restrictions on cash withdrawal limit in banks.
The South Sudan economic cluster, led by Vice President Prof. James Wani Igga, has resolved to lift withdrawal limits imposed on the public by commercial banks, which have recently set their own transaction limits due to liquidity shortages.
The directive, issued on June 25, 2026, instructs the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Central Bank of South Sudan to enact this resolution and enhance financial strategies in the country.
Additionally, an Inter-Agency Economic Reform Task Force will be established to review proposed reforms and will be overseen by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

VICE PRESIDENT IGGA CHAIRS ORDINARY ECONOMIC CLUSTER MEETING
JUBA, JUNE 25, 2026 — The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga, today chaired an ordinary meeting of the Economic Cluster at his office in Juba.
During the meeting, the cluster resolved to lift restrictions on withdrawal limits imposed on the public by commercial banks. The cluster directed the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Central Bank of South Sudan to implement the resolution and develop better strategies to address financial challenges in the country.
The cluster also resolved to implement the Council of Ministers’ resolution on Non-Statutory Tax Exemptions. The cluster regarded tax exemptions as detrimental to the economy, especially in terms of non-oil revenue collection.
Further, the cluster agreed to form an Inter-Agency Economic Reform Task Force that will review all strategies proposed by the Economic Cluster. The Task Force will be headed by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
In remarks to the media after the meeting, the Cluster’s Spokesperson, who is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Lily Albino Akol, said the resolutions aimed to address financial challenges in the country.
Hon. Akol also noted that the resolutions will be forwarded to the Council of Ministers for further deliberation and approval.
