In the cacophony of colour pallets, paintbrushes and acrylics, how does a young visual artist find the choice for his beckoning empty canvas? Well, Martine Senkubuge found his muse in minimalistic yet satisfying strokes of charcoal on paper. He pairs his tools of the trade with a hyperrealist technique that he calls delicate, rigorous but mostly wonderfully immersing. To an untrained eye, his pieces could be confused for photographs. Rightly so, because as the name suggests, he paints beyond realism and then some.
For his maiden solo exhibition titled “part of us”, Martine chooses a bold advocacy tone by collaborating with people living with vitiligo and creating bodies of work that he hopes will dispel myths and stereotypes associated with this minority group.
Watch it on our frame and wavez and 256 Arts TV channels.

Pamela Enyonu’s art finds comfort in the gray areas of the so called ‘no-go zones’. Her mixed media technique is perhaps a befitting style that gives her creative freedom to venture into the boundless possibilities of experimenting with uncommon materials.
Pamela wants her craft to contribute to advancing the narrative of how we see black women today. Apart from using everyday materials in her practice, she sometimes employs formidable, imaginary protagonists who are transformed to real-life bodies of art. She uses these figures to play an activist role in championing women’s movements to further her feminist agenda.
She believes that one cannot go through the process of creating without themselves being “recreated” or ‘transformed’.

The 2020 Christmas Art Market at the Xenson Art Space in Kampala - Uganda was not solely pegged on sales. It was also an avenue for artists to showcase the merchandise they were working on during the COVID19 lockdown hiatus. For the artists, it was also an opportunity to come out of seclusion and find inspiration from other artists’ works and receive feedback from their customers.
This was the debut edition and Xenson Art Space hope to continually promote the visual and performing arts at this venue right into the New Year.
